Great win. Wasn’t always pretty, but I do think that you’ve gotta give some credit to Arizona, they played a very solid game. Igor was incredible tn, trouba has been super noticeable in a good way. Good low scoring win, it’s important to pull these out.
I don’t think either team is gonna be thrilled with the officiating in this one lol.
I guess igor keeping his cool this year lasted all of check notes 2 games lol
Fairly even game (slight edge to us) and speaking of the Yotes, not hard to see why they beat the devils eh?
So is it called a shesterkin now If you stop a 2 minute 5 on 3, stop a penalty shot, and then help facilitate a line brawl at the end of the game? Gretzky never did that!
Really fun game, coyotes are gonna be a sleeper. Solid third to rally and get it together. Team seems to be cohesive, stand up for each-other and buy in. They know they shit the bed last year.
I feel like previous year rangers would of lost this game but these guys look possessed. Zbad just tossed a guy, Igor is trying to get into fights, lindgren has already broken his hand and Trouba may have tried to kill dumba. LFGR!!!!
Maybe arizona will start having fans again. They’re a fun team to watch
Good 1st and 3rd. Not a great 2nd. All that matters is the W. Liking what I’m seeing from this Rangers team. Fun to watch.
Can somebody please clip the brawl lol
I’m still laughing about everything that happened after the final whistle. Throwing hands when you lost. Igor jumping in. A weird very rectangular pile of men. Trouba being gently but forcefully guided off the ice by the ref as the victory music plays. And Krieder’s little tippy tappy pitter patter skates as he hustles back out for his curtain call.
Remember when there were rumors that John Hynes was gonna be the new Rangers coach?
Lmao
Seems teams playing full 60 every game so far. Love it
i had a really trash day and the marching band music playing over the fight at the end saved it
very sloppy at times, bad penalties, fun ending. 8/10.
Igor is so awesome.
Hank just called them Phoenix in the post game lol
Before my review, just letting everyone know during the 150 final, Reinhart scored not once, but twice! get ready for it lol
Rangers top 3 lines were dominant at 5v5 yet again. 1st and 3rd finished above 80% xGF%, 2nd above 60%. 4th line is an unmitigated disaster though. the only reason this game was even close is because virtually all of arizona’s offense came against the 4th line. Each 4th liner gave up 10 5v5 scoring chances. no other NYR forward gave up more than 6. Vesey *has* to play, and it would behoove NYR to give Jones some reps on the right side
overall though if NYR can continue to dominate 5v5 like this, they’ll be dangerous
edit: laviolette just said it’s better to kill the clock in the offensive zone than to try to cave in to the D zone, so i struggle to understand the thought process behind going to the 4th line in the dying minutes of the game after how caved in they were the whole night. a question for another day i guess but i wish a journalist would ask it
The effort seems to be a lot more consistent, lets see this kind of throughout the next 79 games and the playoffs
Kakko with his first point in months. What a bust
I was particularly impressed with how we played with the lead. No turtling. Making good decisions with the puck.
Through 3 games Panarin has just been incredible.
A lot to like about this game. I know the analytics tell me the rangers dominated 5 on 5 but I don’t know if I fully agree.
A lot of puck possession but there were long stretches especially the first 30-40 minutes where nothing was really happening.
Love the post game interviews. Reporters are asking questions then practically answer it themselves while the player just stands there and is like “yeah….that”
My only issues so far this year is I don’t know if Schneider should be starting over Jones and Blake Wheeler worries me that he apparently can only play for 2 periods. Did he show up 20 pounds overweight or something?
Important to the win the games you’re supposed to, even if you don’t play your best. Probably our “worst” game of the 3, but we still looked pretty good. No real complaints tonight.
The ending tho, gave us a decent look at the locker room dynamic this year. This was the first time since probably 2012, 2013 that I’ve seen the players actually fired up for one another. Every player got involved in the scrum, even Zib who never gets involved in the shenanigans. Trouba wanted to murder Dumba (must’ve said something to set him off). Love to see it.

Is it just me or does Panarin just look bigger this year? Like he shaved off his head and somehow gained 20 pounds of muscle in the process. He looks like a grown ass man out there.
Even though Igor jumped into it they shouldn’t have gone after him. You don’t mess with a goalie unless he’s really throwing hands and even then just skate around him. Good to see Igor get the final star after his penalty shot save
The Coyotes logo is so clean
Didn’t Dumba clip Igor in the head a year or two ago…people don’t forget
My only complaint from tonight is that we need to tighten up with the penalties. I was surprised at Lindgren’s in particular. The PK during 5v3 was awesome and very hype but let’s avoid those situations whenever we can eh
Overall I’m happy to see everyone playing a full 60 minutes. I don’t need them to run up the score on these bottom feeder teams, I just want to see a consistent level of play and to pick up two points every chance we get. I also think the guys are “buying in” to what Laviolette is selling which is necessary if we want to win the cup. Loved seeing everyone jump in and defend each other especially at the end
Dude imagine losing to the coyotes
Yeah Panarin looks fuckin insane lmao. Dude is possesed. Good game
Anybody have a clip of Lavvy fired up on the bench after Igor’s save? Keep seeing comments about it. I was laser focused on Panarin when they showed the bench , he seemed 10,000% sure Igor was going to save it and then had almost no reaction when he did in fact save it.
If we keep holding teams under 30 SOG, Igor is gonna win a lot of games.
Breadman the Bald has been tremendous these first 3 games.
I was at the game tonight and the Yotes surprised me. They have a lot of speed, Cooley specifically has game breaking speed.
For us, I think our fans got ahead of themselves after Buffalo. This team is going to take some time to gel with new systems and lines. I thought Trocheck and Chytil played well, lots of pop from them. 4th line was shit, Bonino has no speed and looks like he can barely skate. There’s no way he makes it through the season with us. And we were again sloppy clearing the zone.
Refs were really getting it in the 2nd. They were probably one more call away from fans throwing shit on the ice.
That all said, it’s a victory and i’ll take it.
Great game. Hopefully Miller and Schneider fix whatever they need to fix asap.
Too wired to sleep, hockey season is back
Fun. So glad hockey is back at msg.
Dumba should wear number 55
Good win tbh – officiating sucked ass both ways for the most part (though the ref interrupting Bread’s breakaway was truly some beer league shit), but the team pulled together and got the 2 points!
Lines 1-3 all very solid, Wheels is old and sat after 2 periods which I guess is fine.
Love the effort and how everyone was standing up for each other (Laffy standing up for Lindy, Troubs ready to murder Dumba over Igor lol).
If we clean up the giveaways a bit more and stay focused I think the team can break into a nice stride. 1-3-1 / Left Wing Lock ain’t the most exciting to watch but the structure is definitely helping the team so far.
Rangers have a west rivalry with Dallas and now the yotes?
This was deff the type of game we lost last season, good showing of resilience and defensive fortitude. Overcoming bad calls is huge. Laf and bread look hungry. All good things 👍🏻
you know Kelly S. is punching air right now his bet didn’t hit
Ayo, Yotes, don’t ever disrespect me by coming to the Garden, losing, and then wanting to fight about it!
Solid win tonight! Although I must say Arizona is a lot better then I thought they’d be. Definitely not the same team they were a few years ago. Butt cheeks were clenched during many a moment, especially in that second period which brings me to my next point; second periods seem to be sloppy time for this team. That isn’t anything new by now, but it’s still a problem. Tighten it up fellas. Beyond that, I am fully enjoying watching this team play!
See ya Thursday.
The Hork’s (Semi-Drunken?) View from 222
* Jesu F’n Christos this is the last time I allow my brother to convince me to down 3 Stella’s at Black Iron Burger before the game. Their raspberry cheesecake tho? On point.
* It’s so good to be back in the Garden, let’s F’n GO. Crowd was hyped tonight, usually there are some opposing fans scattered about but there didn’t seem to be any Arizonians (Arozinians?) around.
* Guy working the Gardenvision wasn’t on his game, though. According to him, [Igor got a new look and a wonderful set of barritone pipes for the national anthem.](https://imgur.com/a/qDdZ7aH.jpg) But seriously, John Brancy is an incredible treat and we are blessed to have him.
* Speaking of, fun fact: according to my brother’s girlfriend who works in the theater business (and fact checked on the ride home) while the lyrics of the Star Spangled Banner are from Francis Scott Key, the tune was an old drinking song called the Anacreontic Song that they changed the lyrics to and made into the National Anthem. I can totally vibe with that and it actually makes it feel even more American than before.
* HUGE POP for Foxy when he made a check to keep the puck in one play. He really does play better with Lindgren in the lineup and I *really* hope we can make it work to keep him.
* Definitely some sloppiness in our defensive play. Still time to tidy it up in the year.
* LOTS of names in the Garden tonight. David Harbor and Gaten Matarazzo of Stranger Things and Justin Tuck of the Giants just to name a few. They had rapid fire celebs later on but I missed it.
* Kreider doing Kreider things to put us ahead in the first! Beautiful two on one!
* First period Intermission: Broski won a car! Third time I’ve seen that here. They’re starting to get crafty with it, no longer a straight shot from the red line into the tiny hole, now it’s from closer to the ref’s half-circle. Good job Nick L.!
* Bread had some seriously good possession beginning of the second period. Looking like Kakko with how well he was holding the puck. Even later in the game, I was impressed with how gritty he was and not shirking back from a scrum or boards play. I like this lettuce-less Breadman.
* I wouldn’t call the Key penalty a hold, more of a hook, but he definitely f’d up. Led to an Arizona power play where…
* Igor definitely wanted that goal back. Just missed catching it glove side. Damnit!
* Partially disgruntled moment: if you’re going to give 50% of food and goods with a cheese card, please make sure that your dudes actually CAN give the 50% off. Brother’s girlfriend had to pay full price and come back for free hotdogs later on to make up the difference (so the right thing was done) but still, annoying.
* Karaoke Cam: Mr. Brightside of course. Crowd was SO into it.
* I think it was around here we had a power play where PP2, or some amalgamation of PP2 came on, and they just fell into the pass-pass-pass black hole. I think they just need to get more time out there to realize, yeah, you can shoot too.
* Yo, these refs were assholes. One of them TOTALLY c-blocked Panarin on the breakaway, and then gave us a double whammy when Arizona came back? We let them have it. With full New York gusto.
* Seriously, that unsportsmanlike on Lindgren was just a dick move.
* The penalty kill for the 5 on 3 was *strong*. We give one up there, game definitely ends differently. And least year, I think that happens. This year is different and I’m loving it.
* « You’re not Brancy » cheer when DJ NVM came out for the second Intermission. 222 has a bunch of smartasses in it this year and I am ALL IN on it.
* When Brancy *did* come out, that’s always a treat. The whole Garden loved it.
* Third period the boys looked much better. They’re definitely not at the « The Rangers play only one period per game » level they used to be, but last game and this one their second periods did look weak so still need that 60 minute performance.
* Dumba cross check against Lindgren was wicked and almost reminded me of Buchnevich rocking Marchand years ago. Ah, memories.
* Of course, they missed the slew foot right after that against… I forget who, I think they did it to Foxy… man that got me irritated.
* The boys made good on the penalty though. Trocheck with his first of the year channeling Kreider with that tip in. Could have sworn it was Bread, but a goal is a goal.
* Speaking of: is it just me or has Trocheck been kind of… Invisible overall this year? Maybe he’s just slow starting combined with playing on the third line, but I haven’t really dug his play.
* Also, fourth line has been lousy. I don’t dig it. They’re not an abject danger to the team or anything, but again, not keen on it as it is.
* A few minutes left in the game, « *I’m just yelling to yell* » « **I support your yelling!** » Live drunken shitposting Section 222 Style as the game drew to a close. Yeah this section is gonna be fun this year.
* There was NO REASON to put that .5 seconds back on the clock at the end of the game. Icing or not, that scrum was a direct result of a team that knew they lost getting one last chance. Once again, I blame the refs. Especially ref #11. Dude looked young enough to be reffing his cousin’s bantam team. He must be new.
* I don’t know how exactly it got started or how Igor got involved in the scrum, but all I know is Trouba was the last one to get up because he had someone in a front face lock on the ice door the longest time and he was *heated*. That’s my captain. The refs also pushed him off the ice at the end to the locker room before the salute, and the boys were having fun with some Coyote player’s gloves and stick.
**Heartwarming moment of the game that deserves some attention:** During the second period, The Rangers brought the Baughman family up making it seem like they were going to play the trivia game, but in actuality it was something better. They had lost their home in a fire, their son grabbed his Zibanejad jersey before getting out, and they tried to get a signed Henrik jersey but it was mostly destroyed. (Important safety tip, fire means GTFO and leave it all behind, but I’m glad they all did get out ok)
One of their friends must have contacted the Rangers because they gave them a $10,000 check presented by Adam Graves, and a replacement Henrik jersey. But wait! That was a *signed* Henrik jersey they lost! Well here’s the King to sign it himself! In the midst of a family tragedy the Rangers brought some solace and kindness to this family, and I love it. Say what you will, [I love this team and what they do for the fans.](https://imgur.com/a/lAPpotH.jpg)
Final thoughts on the game: Arizona honestly has a decent team. I’m always impressed how this lousy franchise with a joke of an arena actually fields a team that gives a damn and will fight for everything they can. They are going to be trouble in a few years if they keep on this path.
The Rangers still have some growing to do, but overall I’m liking what I’m seeing. It’s still a step back from the domination that was the season opener in Buffalo, but steps in the right direction. 81-1 here we go! (Not getting penisy tho)
While it remains to be seen wether or not the whole roster can maintain it all season – they’re playing with an edge and feistiness, a lot of guys seem willing to get in the mix and get involved in the extracurriculars. I do think that teams who have that bench-wide snarl manage to sustain deep success into the latter stages of the season,
