Played an AMAZING 1st period and than… nothing. Just completely fell apart. I would be more mad if this wasn’t a developing year. These things are gonna happen. Just gotta hope they actually y’know, develop from this lol

What a weird (and lifeless) game.
1. What’s disappointing to me was how much that felt like last season. The second we hit some adversity, we couldn’t bounce back.
2. Let’s bench Bemstrom and Roslovic again.
It’s amazing to me we could even muster at least 6 shots in the third.
I can’t really explain how it feels watching this team other than just so fucking frustrating and deflating. I’ve never seen a team so regularly dejected and discombobulated. Coming apart as soon as there’s any sort of pushback. The first sign of things going wrong and they just shut down.
It’s baffling watching a team with Laine, Johnny, Fantilli, Johnson etc struggle for 60 minutes not only to create a single goal but to gain the red line so they could dump and change. Over and over and over. It’s borderline unwatchable. I don’t understand how a team can change so much and still care so little year after year.
I’ve been watching these Jackets allegedly build toward something for over a decade now and still seems like we’re at square one. I’m so extremely let down every fall I’m kind of mad at myself for ever getting excited when September rolls around.
I didn’t expect to be very good but I at the very least thought we’d be creative or watchable and watchable this team is not

Guys, the McOilers lost 8-1 once, so we didn’t actually lose this game.
We are the most boring team in the NHL to watch. No offense at all tonight, no defense, soft goals let up. Why would I pay money to go to a game if this is the product? I know it’s not every night, but at least when other teams suck they suck in exciting ways. It was always fun to watch a Devils game because you had no clue how they were gonna screw it up, but you knew it was gonna be hilarious. But if the Jackets have a crap game, which is often, I know exactly what’s gonna happen. 8 trillion turnovers, low effort D, and soft goaltending.
Maybe after the shit show off-season with Babcock all the guys need a road trip together. Almost sucks to start the year at home. Hope they get some chemistry and can pull together as a group
And you know they’re going to come out on Friday and curbstomp the Flames into paste. Because that’s how it goes.

Why Rangers fans didn’t panic and “moved on to the next one” after we beat them on Saturday? Because they still showed up, showed effort, and quite frankly got a little unlucky that they lost the game.
Why are we in panic mode already? Because it’s been 3 games, and already in 2 of those the effort has been appalling.
The effort is completely unacceptable through 3 games. Wake the F up Jackets!

The Bad: I paid for a quarter season ticket package and 1 game in I’m anticipating a doubling in my alcohol expenditure from last season. My wife very lovingly agreed to drive home for all our remaining Jackets games.
3 games in is maybe a little early to hit the panic button, but at the same time it doesn’t feel that way. 6M AAV Severson didn’t skate a shift in the third and that was the right decision. Scary…
I know everybody is sad but I wanted to share a story from yesterday’s fan meeting. I met Spencer Martin after the whole thing as I was walking to the garage. He stopped and had a short conversation with me. Super nice guy.

Tough look for the boys after a big win over the Rangers. Consistency in their play is going to be the biggest hurdle for this young team. 1st period they were flying around; 2nd and 3rd not so much. Put this one in the rear view and get ready for the next game.

I’m sure the takes in this thread will be totally rational, fair and within the realm of suitable expectations for us icing basically the same team as last year with a new coach.
Positives?: If Jiricek continues to improve his skating, he’s just going to get better. Provorov did kinda look like dogshit in the first game but imo has looked much better in game 2 and 3, more like he did in pre-season. Fantilli had some beautiful setups early before we couldn’t stay out of the box for 2 periods.
Downside time: Severson fucking sucked tonight. Hard pine rider. My goodness.
Not sure time: Spencer Martin is, by all accounts, a very nice guy but not sure how good he is at playing goalie in the NHL. I missed a few of the goals against so if anyone could fill me in on whether they were his fault or not, that would be swell.

I’ve been to 2 games already. I have probably seen, and I’m not joking, 7 almost own goals by our team. I saw 4 tonight, I saw 3 on opening day. That shit is super concerning.
