Dirty win there for the Sabres. Cant stop playing and rely on Levi to be incredible with only the Dawg line doing anything. Loved the play early but they just died after that first Lightning goal. Also shoutout ESPN for giving us minute by minute updates about Stamkos and his contract situation

Laser from Cozens! Good game from Levi as well.

  3. barffolemeow

Dreadful 3rd but end result feels so good

I wasn’t sweating, you were sweating.

    whew.

  5. MinerKing13

Wish they had held on in regulation, but awesome to see them win with defense. The offense will start clicking eventually, but to show they can grow defensively is big. Levi played great too. Great bounce back

  6. ThePeteVenkman

Worst part of this is giving a point to TBL. Fuck them.

  7. H3X1H3X

Great bounce back let’s keep it rolling

  8. lowerdel

the sabres have now blown 1 out of 1 leads. gonna try and keep track of this

    nice win anyhow

  9. PrimasChickenTacos

I really wished they played “Gummi Bear” in honor of Lightning-killer Ilya Lyubushkin after that win.

I like the Sabres. I like when the Sabres win.

    So happy for Cozey.

But I wonder how the Stamkos contract situation is going?

Hopefully giving them that point doesn’t bite us, but glad to see us bounce back like that in OT! Realllllly hope Sammy’s injury is minor 🤞

That there is the difference between the Sabres last year and a playoff team, fighting back to force OT. (Saying Tampa is a good team and can fight back and the Sabres are lacking that…)

Seriously though, if they play like that or better 90% of the time, they should be golden. Don’t get me wrong, it should’ve never went to OT and there are still stupid things they do, but they looked way better tonight compared to last week

    Levi is Him.
    Greenway is on a tear.
    The first line showed up.
Cozy might have awaken from a long Yukon hibernation.

I didn’t think the third period was that bad, tbh. Was tight but they had some pressure against TB. Just unlucky bounce to tie it.

I know it’s been 3 games but I’m fairly certain Benson is going to be our best player in a few years. Theres so many examples of this but heres one example from this game that just illustrates what I mean.

Second period about 10min left Benson is sprung on a two on one. Gains the line and skates it in and shoots. On the surface this seems pretty standard right? Fucking wrong. Watch the replay. Once he gains the line you can tell hes leaning to wanting to pass, looking across waiting for the perfect time. But it doesn’t come. TBL player lays down on the ice blocking the pass. So what does Benson do? He just shoots it and gets a puck on net. Johnasson or whatever his name is even had to look behind him to make sure it didn’t squeek through. Compare that to 5 min later when Peterka and Cozens are on a 2-on-1 and Peterka is also looking for the pass. Except it doesn’t open up and he forces it and passes it anyways. Wasting an opportunity. (I love Peterka so this is not a slight to him, just an example).

To me this is one of the clearest examples of how good Benson is. His hockey IQ and maturity for his age is pretty insane. Its crazy that he can stay composed and just take the shot because in the moment thats just the best option. You expect a vet to make this play all day. But an 18 year old in his 3rd game? I still see Mitts and others force the pass on 2-on-1’s every game. He already does all the little and simple things great. I just can’t wait till hes been in the league for a few more years, gets a bit bigger and is more comfortable. Right now he seems to just be keeping his head down and staying out of trouble. I have a feeling in a few years hes going to be a pest and in everyones faces.

    Other notes:

    * Penalty Kill actually looks pretty good.
    * Actually liked Jokers game today. Didn’t notice him much but thats the point. You don’t want to notice him. He seems pretty fast today too. Not sure if I’ve just never noticed but he seemed to have an extra step. Broke up a nice chance by Hagel in the 3rd as well.
    * Jost played great and is great on the PK. He needs to be in over Olofsson.
    * Levi played great today. Barely any rebounds and made some really key spots to keep us in the lead.

Giving a point away to the Bolts sucks, but not as bad as a loss would have. Much needed win, hopefully we can build off of it.

  18. jimmy_beans

So Samulesson got hurt- I guess it’s Jacob Bryson time and new D pairings now that they started to look pretty good back there.

  19. SuperStudMufin

Buffalo sports is taking years off my life

  20. Fun-Customer-1696

Cozens with the make it snappy zone ability on that OT winner.

  21. canintospace2016

WE LOOKED SO GOOD TONIGHT, DEFENSE WAS SO GOOD, OFFENSE IS WARMING UP AND SHOWING SIGNS, PASSING STILL NEEDS TO GET BETTER BUT IT LOOKED WAY BETTER TONIGHT

  22. adolce95

That was probably the best defensive effort we’ve seen from this group in a long time. Both goals were on weird bounces but there was always someone covering the front, they gave up very few grade a chances, they dominated on the PK. This is the growth people wanted to see and boy did they show it. And when there was a lapse, Levi was there to bail them out.

Offensively I wish we had seen more in the second period but they came out of the gate hot. Tage is awake and is gonna break through soon. Dawg line remains Dawgs.

Now we just gotta hope Sammy isn’t seriously injured, don’t want to go through that again early in the season.

  23. joeyg151785

    Levi is the reason.

Donny needs to find another line.

    Quinn needs to hurry

Power is out playing Dahlin IMO

    Peterka looks bad.

  24. HilmDave

Olof on waivers tomorrow. Keep Josty here. Figure out ComriexUPL. Figure out playing against a 1-3-1. Do this and the Cup is a lock.

Oh and make sure Samuelsson is injected with adamantium.

  25. crashandwalkaway

Started strong in the first, mostly in the second with air coming out of the balloon in the last few minutes of that period, I did NOT like how the 3rd was played. But hoping this is still just early season wobbles. It’s going to be a loooooong season.

  26. ItsMcLaren

3 game W streak against the boLts. Channeling the Bills by keeping it close when we should’ve blown them out. If you don’t like that, you don’t like Buffalo sports

  27. sarcastic_man_13

Thompson 60% on the draw tonight

  28. Roguemutantbrain

I thought our penalty kill was very good tn. Lots of hustle/diving blocks/pokes

  29. htt1258

As a Bruins fan who has casually followed the Sabres as my second team for a little while (sacrilegious I know) but recently started watching a lot closer, I just have to say the PTSD was so palpable in the game thread the entire third period lol glad they came out with the two points and I hope your day is coming soon sword bros!
