This is the kind of leafs coverage I would love to see more of. I’m certainly going to be looking at both D-men going into the corner, and it also explains why were seeing D-Men at the point sometimes.

Wow great post. Good knowing theres an explanation behind why we are playing poorly in our own zone, and that it will likely iron out.

Very high risk – high reward. There is basically no room for error.

Interesting article. I didn’t notice the change in responsibility for the defenseman but it did feel like we’ve had more options in our break out so it’s definitely something to watch for.
In theory it feels like a great change for our forwards as it gives them more opportunities to make decisions but can our defensemen be effective with this extra responsibility? I’m skeptical.

I feel like they are learning and using enemy tactics that worked against them in the past. It’s so crazy it just might work.

It’s interesting because in his pre-game presser before the Hawks game, Keefe states that the Leafs « haven’t changed anything in our DZ coverage from this season to previous seasons »: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ympBUGIoghU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ympBUGIoghU) skip to 15:05 for his comments on DZ coverage.

Justin Bourne alluded to some of these changes in his article here as well: [https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/structural-things-to-watch-with-the-maple-leafs-this-season/](https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/structural-things-to-watch-with-the-maple-leafs-this-season/)
