@Avalanche du Colorado

The majority of my animosity for the Kracken wouldn't exist if Eberle had gotten suspended for the hit on Cogs. After that it's just "hey they knocked out a decimated Avs team who really didn't have a cup run left in the playoffs".

  2. LOC was the heart and soul of the Avs tonight and Georgie worked hard to give them a chance. I maintain that the Avs need to be more physical when a team like the Kraken take them out of their normal game.

It was non-existent in the first, and you saw pockets of it in the second and third, but mainly out of frustration rather than by design.

I'm hoping the new guys just need more time to gel and get comfortable. The effort is there, for the most part, but it's just a bit out of sync.

Props to Eberle for actually dropping the gloves and not doing what Taylor Hall did and run from Landy all night after he bloodied MacKinnon.

Speaking of, it's apparent how much they still miss Landy's physical play and net presence.

  3. Georgiev has now saved 91 of the 95 shots he’s faced to start the season. Nice to have that guy behind you, especially on nights when you don’t have it like last. As far as the Avs, looked lethargic most of the night but kudos to coming out and playing a solid 3rd to close out the game. Kind of expected this kind of game being at the tail end of a road trip vs a desperate team playing their home opener which is why I was hoping they weren’t focused on revenge and just focused on snagging at least a point and getting out of dodge. Instead, they grinded out 2 points and ended the trip 3-0. Loving it and now time for some home cooking!

  4. Drouin is like a Newhook 2.0 right now. He’s got so much talent that you see in small glimpses and then other times, your shake your head wondering why they looks so lost.
Love the picks for the sound check! I think I’ve got to steal Shaggy’s for my list.

  5. Drouin is the one who’s gonna get in the doghouse faster than Johansson. People on the Substack thread with Dater were making that observation.

  6. I cannot say I have ever hated any player that wore our A, Brad May is maybe the closest😤😤……but still, I don't connect with that side of the Fanbase. RyJo and Drouin are NOT know for physical play and that is the main style that Seattle plays. Both will be fine and those Boo Birds will be silenced by the end of the Postseason😉🙏🏻💪🏻

  7. Not sure why people are trying to single out RyJo when it's actually Bowen Byram that looks awful.

  8. Third game of the season… home opener for an energized, albeit slightly misguided, fan base… juggled lines for the first period… bend don’t break and be clinical with your chances! Thought that was a great win, they can’t all be pretty! Thought nuke was our best player tonight, maybe trying to make sure the locker room knows he’s in? Oh, and one last thing… RED WINGS SUCK!!!

  9. I’m not disappointed in Jo BUT I am nervous. A key piece to the cup run was a #2 center and so far…I’m not seeing it. You are right, he needs time to adjust….but how much time is allotted though? Until new years?

  10. A few observations: LOC had a great game. I'm surprised a Kraken player didn't go after Makar the way LOC went after Eberle. I tried watching Byram each time he was on the ice. He is struggling. Seattle has dropped somewhat since last year. They don't have the depth they had then. They are probably at a level where they belong. Burakovsky missed the net how many times? Mackinnon should not take faceoffs. Seems strange to me that the Avs level of play in this game didn't resemble a "revenge game". Avs still win, despite underperforming. That's encouraging.

  11. The only thing I can say after this game is thank you, Georgiev!!! Because without him, this game would have been over after 5 minutes. The Avs cannot play like that against the top teams. The third line has to step up their offense.

  12. Seattle is good at making the Avs play their game. Sloppy, sloppy, play with so many turnovers. That first power play I don't think they ever successfully got it in the zone, lol. Looked like it might get ugly but Georgiev kept them in it – fantastic performance, and he didn't seem stressed out at all despite facing, what, 37 shots?

So this was the third type of game we win: against the Kings, we were in control and won handily; vs. SJ, we were in control and barely squeaked it out; vs. Seattle, we got outplayed for the most part, and still found a way to win. Gotta love Mikko taking one shot and it being a goal. It's interesting to see how they can find a win under different circumstances.

LOC reminded us why we love him – such a hard worker, finally got rewarded with a goal, and taking it up with Eberle to settle that score.

Cale kind of admitted that the booing bothers him – I think he said he has to just get used to it – but who cares when he literally just broke a record set by Bobby Orr!
Oh and the Avs tied an NHL record for longest regular-season road win streak.

  13. You boys understand that 4-1 is a victory, right? It may have been a little…ugly for the first 40 minutes, but it's a damned sight better than a "pretty loss" – and a big improvement over the last time we played them. They've figured out how to smother Mac and Makar (heh, for a little while), we figured out how to deal with that. Also, can I point out that we beat them? Plus, it was a win. In addition, we had more goals at the end of the game than they did.
Sound check: "Hung out with LOC, yeah you know me."

  14. It was good to see some production from players not on the top line, that was my takeaway. Not coincidentally, that was also what was missing from the playoff series against the Kraken. If they can get goals from the 2,3,4 lines they have a shot to get back to the championship series.

  15. Bringing up the tack hammer reference was pure gold. You guys are awesome and as always, thanks for the game updates. I'm way up in the boondocks here in Newfoundland and I rarely get to see past the first period so you really are my first listen of the day.

  16. Maybe yall mentioned it but did yall hear Ray Ferraro last night making a fool of himself like always, because he was talking about how "the avs dont have it, theyre top heavy, and dont have their skating legs" acting like we didn't dominat the first 2 games and were up 2-1at that point off of our depth guys in Lehkonnen and O'Connor and then not 5 minutes later Rantanen made it 3-1 and it went from that to all of a sudden "the avs are dangerous, and are contenders for the cup" like bros take was soo bad the play by play was like " what are talking about ray" 🤣🤡

  17. Credit to the GM for all the moves made in offseason. Thank you Cale for leading the charge for our defense and goal tending has been stellar. Happy for the strong start and look forward to the rest of the months games.
    Go Avs Go

  18. Sammy is not having a great year i'm not sure where you're getting that from. He made one good play in the Seattle game and hes a minus 1 overall in three games. that means hes been on the ice for 2 of 4 goals the Avs have let in so far and if you watch you'll see its not a coincidence. I have no idea why you guys are soo high on Sammy. As far as the new guys, they all need time to acclimate, anyone knocking them already is out of their mind. Georgie looks great so far though.

  19. Awesome start to the season with 6 points, perhaps not completely deserved last night but none the less they found their game and gritted it out for the win. Georgiev has held this team up, what a score it was picking him up. He looks so comfortable in net.

It would be good to see some of the new guys on the scoreboard, but it'll come. RyJo has not only switched systems but he's coming back from injury. He hasn't played since Feb so I think he needs a bit of time to find his game. I think once this team settles in they will be a force to be reckoned with!
