@Ligue nationale de hockey

The NHL is trying to drive people to use… er, nevermind, they don’t have a solution at all, apparently they just don’t want people to watch the sport.

  2. Being blocked from Toronto and Montreal games, sounds like they’re doing you a favor ….

  3. Reasonable-Nebula882

    Prob that “skyworth” tv /s

  4. Only-Worldliness2364

    It’s really fucking random.

I’m in Northern BC; tonight I can watch Van at TB or Edm at Phi. Cgy at Buf is blacked out LOL

  5. PossessionGlad4638

Y’all need to get Hulu for all other games, then learn how to stream for your team.

This has been a thing for us Avs fans for literally YEARS

  6. Bubbafett33

NHL hasn’t figured out that piracy skyrockets when the legit media isn’t available. People are literally willing to pay money, and the NHL still promotes piracy instead.

  7. It’s so fucking frustrating… I’d gladly give money to the league if they gave me an easy, reliable way to stream games. Until then they will get nothing from me and I’ll continue to illegally stream 🖕

  8. Miracl3Work3r

It would be terrible for you to Sport Surge your way to enjoying those NHL games.

  9. sakuniemi

I live in Minnesota and I can watch every single game of any team every night…

  10. HockeyBabble

Again Matey, as ye be learnin’ we were all once law abiding’ folk, driven into the cruel Dark Waters, taking to plunder, all to satisfy our needs that we’d happily pay a Kings Ransom to anyone that actually fulfill our simple needs!!

We Fly the Death Flag because we were given no real choice!!

  11. poolside123

Remember when we bought pay per view games with blackouts?🤣

  12. You know what’s not out of hand?

Avast ye matey! Come sail the high seas! Endless games for ye ta see! Yarrrrr-har!

  13. SurfSpecificFitness

NHL is already such an under exposed sport, you wonder why hockey has a drastically smaller fan base than baseball, basketball, football, soccer… STOP DOING THIS SHIT YOU GREASEMONKEY TV COMPANIES

  14. OrnamentalVirus

Private subscriptions are out of hand. Almost one for every NHL team. The Demon Gary Bettman must be stopped

  15. Tux_Ralphie

This is why I don’t bother trying to pay for it anymore, I’d rather deal with popups from you know what then pay for blackouts.

  16. b_levautour

Eh, as a recent transplant to Tennessee who was considering making the Preds my third-tier preference, the blackouts just make me understand that the team doesn’t want my support. Lol

  17. wild_Witch_

That’s why we no longer support or buy team merchandise for 5 teams. Now it’s just 1.

  18. BronzeBackWanderer

Is New Foundland really 32 hours from Toronto by car? I would have figured 10 tops.

  19. GroW tHe gAmE. Proceeds to blackout locals.

  20. MapleSyrupKintsugi

I paid for one year and got this way too much so I stopped doing it. I’d rather not watch

  21. How can we get our voices heard? Not that they give a fuck about what we have to say anyway.

  22. HockeyShark91

The Least Expensive TV Package that allows me to get Sharks games, ESPN, and TNT is $119 a month. I don’t want cable, I don’t have cable. Definitely not at that price. So no Hockey for me. NHL is screwing up.

  23. sir_meowsin

I haven’t paid to watch a game since I got a blackout on the rangers game playing edmonton in the calgary region. Cancelled the next fucking day

  24. Few-Quiet-283

My friend please don’t pay for everything use NHL 66 or NHL Reddit Streams as a fellow student i understand your plight

  25. prowhiteboy64

MLB🤝NHL stupid blackouts that make the sport impossible to watch

  26. oldeVkng

A while back I wanted to watch the leafs and canadiens. The game wasn’t available in EITHER city I was like what????? 😂 ridiculous.

  27. Randy_Butternubs666

As an aside, I was on a work trip about 4 years ago that took me to St. John’s Newfoundland and was absolutely blown away by the natural beauty (got to visit Cape Spear), the beauty of the city, the friendliness of the people, the amazing seafood (Bernard Stanley) . . . all of it. One of the best work trips I’ve ever been on. Really, really want to get back there when I’m not working to explore more.

  28. _petasaurus_

Sportsnet is your friend here. I can watch any Canadian team’s games. They even do certain games that don’t involve Canadian teams, but overall……not that many.

  29. CrazedHedgeHog

YAR AVAST YE LAND LUBBERS. YE SCALLYWAGS HOP ABOARD. THE SEAS NEED SAILING AND OUR BODIES NEED SCUUUUUUURVYYYYY YAAAAAAAR

  30. cerevisiae_

What’s actually insane are games that are broadcast on ESPN but blacked out on ESPN+.

Good thing I can hook into a different Xfinity account to stream my team live, but insane that there isn’t an actual streaming service I can use use.

  31. -MakeNazisDeadAgain_

Pirating gives you better quality feeds, more leagues, the option to choose home or away feed, and the ability to rewind and save recordings. I would pay them for it if I could.

  32. MyDogsNameIsStella

The Leafs game tonight is on TSN, TVAS (French), and a Florida network. I’m in Manitoba, why am I in a local blackout with TSN? Like what are my legitimate options to watch this game?

  33. Evilturtleses

If only you could forward your IP to an “out of market” area

  34. bostwigg

Because when you make a thread about it in the preseason on r/hockey, they take it down and dm you saying it’s a « hot take » and won’t be allowed.

For some reason, some people want to black out games you already paid to see. I know the mods over at r/hockey discourage discussion against it, so maybe more people support it than we think? I think it’s total bullshit, but that’s just my opinion. I try to drum up discussion, but we’ll never really see change until we are allowed to talk about it. I work in video games, and we actually do read social media and forums for public opinion, and we actually patched out some monetization stuff from an unreleased project due to published reviews specifically calling out monetization in one of our games and the fact that every single review called it out forced the top decision makers to tone down the predatory monetization.

Business people react to numbers. We need to drum up tons of public discussion shitting on the NHL for this. How else do you propose we influence them? There is no other way. We have to somehow generate a measurable number that shits on the NHL. That is how business works. Video games don’t strip out money-making microtransactions until you can walk in to the board room with hundreds of negative reviews and less than 10% of all published reviews ignore the monetization. The person in charge of a project looks like an idiot in front of everyone ignoring public feedback like that. Nobody is so powerful they can ignore facts in a corporation, no matter how evil you think corps are. They actually are extremely, overly, facts and numbers based.

It takes more than complaining on reddit, but it takes hundreds of people talking about it and spreading how terrible it is all over the web.

  35. SanguineSleet

I actually don’t think it’s the NHL’s ruling but CRTC(?) pushing people to pay for Canadian feeds since bell and Rogers get so much revenue from the sport. The other big sports don’t have as many teams in Canada so it’s not pushed as much. The Canadian companies don’t want you going to the NHL’s feed because it means they lose money. So they made a deal with NHL to black out the games that are airing in your region to make you have to pay for cable…

  36. StationNeat5303

This year, I’m watching most games on Hulu/ESPN+ through a Verizon deal. Where we’re at, we get the occasional game on TNT or Bally.

Fuck I miss Hockey Night in Canada.
