Michkov gets smuggled out of Russia at the end of this year.

Get him out of Russia first opportunity

I’ll be shocked if we see Michkov play at all if the NHL doesn’t push the IIHF to actually pressure Russia to honor our contracts. Russia has no reason to let any players leave and the IIHF is too soft with them because they are afraid.

lol at everyone who said Putin wouldn’t personally step in and interfere with our prospects coming over.

restrictions is a little loose here, everything ive read makes it sound like Russia just wants to be fairly compensated when players develop in russia and then leave for north america, they probably want cash payments back on the table like the agreements the NHL has with other european league

and it might be a good thing if russian teams know theyll get paid at the end if they develop young guys and give them more ice time than they do now. but none of the articles or quotes actually talk about restrictions.

    heres the direct quote

“Together with specialists from the Ministry of Sports, I told you many times: we need to understand what to do with these hockey dealers, who take children from sports schools and drag them abroad. It is clear that we have a free country, everyone makes a choice. We shouldn’t interfere. But it is also clear that this is a business, and not always regulated and noble.
I’ve said many times: little is being done in this regard. The Ministry of Sports and the Russian Federation, please return to this issue. The dependence there is big, the money is not small, the damage is obvious to us. The legal framework should be defined and guarantees for both the state and the participants in this activity.”

  6. So what you’re saying is Alexi Kolsov, and Michkov are never seeing the light of day in Philly? This would violate the deal the Flyers had with Kolsov’s agent to play the 23-24 KHL season and than come over to Philly in February.

Sounds like they want to get paid. If they didn’t allow players to play in the nhl you’ll see a ton of young Russians going the provorov route and playing in the chl instead

  8. Just more ridiculousness out of Russia. Anyone think they would agree to this being reciprocatory? Like for some of the leading scorers in the KHL being from North America? Should AHL teams be compensated for developing Riley Barber? Maybe Miami of Ohio gets a little cash? Maybe the US development team? Yeah I really doubt they would fork over any cash for players like Reid Boucher, Jordan Weal, Taylor Beck, Ryan Spooner, Alex Chmelevski etc etc. because they « chose » to play in the KHL.
