  1. I’m going to spend the year expanding on my understanding of team defense and d zone coverage. I’m frustrated that we gave our division rivals a point but super happy with all the improvements in defensive play. What I will say is if you watch both of the Hagel goals in slow motion or pause the video, in each case there is an unwillingness to cover a man in front of the net. Yes they are bad bounces on both goals, but Tage left the front of the net on the second one leaving Hagel wide open. I find this frustrating because so many teams cover the front of their net and tie us up or hit us. We rarely score dirty goals in front of the net but we let other teams skate right in. I would have also liked to see them hit more in the third to slow Tampa down. But anyways it really shows that they are practicing and working on all this! Good signs!

  2. Any win against the lightning is basically beating the san Antonio spurs of the Nhl it always suprises me when it happens

  3. Dillon has arrived. We looked good. Really thought we had a shut out going. I guess it will come eventually.

  4. Both Tampa goals were bad luck. I thought the D and Levi played really well.

  5. With Johnson, Samuelson, Clifton, Krebs, Dahlin, Greenway, & Cozens, I'd expect way more hits!

  6. Jost makes so much more of an impact on the 4th line over olofsson on the 2nd line. He was buzzing all night I thought. Greenway has impressed me to start this season

  7. Power played a great game, he seemed to be more willing to use his size in the boards and looked a little more confident, we just need players to keep building off their good games(like Greenway/Benson/Krebs) and they will be fine. I am confident our stars will show up we just need our depth to be ready to score in case the top guys are shut down/not performing. Levi looked great tonight, besides that one wide open in the slot to Hagel(not Levi's fault) and then Hagel again gets that lucky bounce to tie it with 7 seconds left also not Levi's fault, he swallowed everything up and made a couple nice saves on one of the best snipers in the league(Kucherov).

  8. We may not win the cup, but we’ll lead the league in posts. Good to have the first win out of the way. Hopefully our “streaks” level out early. If we start on time and play a solid team game every night, no reason we can’t beat any team in the league. Really hoping our Defense steps up this season.
Leafs scored 14 goals in 3 games. Gave up 13 goals in those 3 games and lost to the Blackhawks. Barely beat Habs.
    Don’t be like the Leafs.
The division is ours for the taking if we balance scoring, defense, and goaltending.

  9. With how bad the start of this season has been for Tampa, how bad JJ has played and showing how much the team misses him, Vasilevskiy could be the first player in NHL history to win the Hart Trophy without ever playing a game! lol

  10. Wayne, I am glad we won, but I blame Owen Power more than Dahlin for the 2nd goal by Tampa Gay. He was a statue watching the goal right in front of him … tackle the guy and get two minutes if need be.

  11. We need Sammy ,remember last year let's pik Stamkos up ha ha I like Casey's vision he coming into a good player

  12. I have a feeling once Tage gets one, that'll open the floodgate. He was hungry for one last night

  13. Levi made some timely point- blank saves and the team looked motivated. Good stuff! I can't see how Coach could take Jost back out of the line-up.

  14. A Win is a win, but not the greatest win. Not sure why this season has started so slow but they better get going here. Or maybe this is who we are ??, still inconsistent ?? , IDK but I expected a Great start to the season and didn't really get it. Take it for now for sure, but Don't like giving points away. Remember 1 Point was the difference last year. Go Sabs !!

  15. Wayne, been a subscriber for the last three years, and this has to be my favorite intro yet. Absolutely loved it.

  16. We needed that one! The boys are looking better. I thought after they scored 2 that it would open the floodgates and we'd wind up with 5 or 6. But we'll take it! Lets stack some wins.

  17. Team seems to have regressed from last year next 2 games will determine that

  18. A much needed Win, Coz finally breaks through, still nothing from Tage!

Jost made a difference in the lineup.

  19. I’m actually impressed with Mittsy and his play so far. Zemgus is just a beast when he’s playing hard.
I think we need to move Okposo. Waynsey nail biter but Levi saved our bacon again. Glad to see Dylan get the winner. Maybe his confidence comes back.
    Go Sabres!

  20. Look forward to your breakdowns after each game! Love the channel! Go Sabres!

  21. Love the opening music , Wayne! Sister Christian, by Night Ranger!
Good win too bad they couldnt put Tampa away in regulation. Sucks that Tampa got a point!
Remember what Gretzky use to say , the best kindve D is a good offence! Sabres need to put teams away when they have the lead!

  22. Don't look now, but Buffalo's PK is clicking at 91% having killed 10/11 penalties through the first three games. The PP is still sporting a goose egg on their 8 attempts, so that still needs work. But I feel a better PK is more critical to overall success than a good PP. I do not think Jost should sit another game this season, he looked so good out there. Great to see Cozens get on the scoreboard, hope Tage does soon as well. He was buzzing all night.

  23. I like the additions on defense this off-season. It could work out in the end that the Sabres have a top 10 PK, Top 16 PP, lowering their GA & then make the playoffs.

  24. Had to suffer through that goal with 7 seconds left, so we could be treated to the sound of Dilly Dilly's goal, to win it in OT😮…it was worth the stress Wayne

  25. If they just played keep away instead of going for the empty netter they would of never went to overtime

  26. Really want/need to have Dahlen start to assert himself more with his offensive game. He seems to be hesitant and laying back for whatever reason, instead of trying to drive the play. They didn't just sign him to $11M/season starting next year to see him looking for stretch passes, dump-ins, and passing the puck without trying to open up a team playing a trap given his skating and puck-handling abilities. And, I will blame him for Tampa's tying goal as he made not one but 2 blind passes up the boards when he had no winger support to do so at either time. Before his 1st attempt to clear the puck he only needed to hold it against the boards and eat some clock which would have also given his teammates time to cover their checks after started to scramble. Instead, his first clearing pass resulted in an immediate shot on goal which only added to the problem. His second attempt was a weak push at the puck toward one or two teammates who were covered by Lightening players, resulting in the 2nd shot on Levi that Hagel ended up potting on the rebound in an outnumbered situation at the net. Meanwhile, Dahlen stayed behind the net and watched. He looks to me like he's playing in a fog. Maybe he's too busy counting all the zero's on his new contract?

  27. Amerks update: Rosen and Kulich are burning up the AHL, both over a point per game, Kulich hat trick last game. Rosen looks so quick, head up always, takes hits to make plays. Kulich looking like Ovie in the AHL

  28. Tage Thompson played 21 minutes, it’s about time the top line played more than bottom lines…Tage didn’t score but each time his line was on the ice they held the puck a lot in offensive zone, when the other team doesn’t have the puck they can’t score.

  29. I see the coach is back to benching Peterka, the guy played great first 2 games, was flying out there, now icetime cut again, you can’t score on the bench.

  30. If the last 2 games are a indication (let's hope) the Sabres might be adopting a more defensive style of play. I prefer Tage & Cozens (as examples) score 35+ goals & be a +5 (or higher) than scoring 45+ goals & be a -10 (or higher) at the end of the season.

  31. Take the 1st game against the Rangers there is no way a team can block 30+ shots a game & not become "The Walking Wounded" by game 82. The Sabres have the high end skill to match any team in the League but what they lacked (hopefully it has changed) is a committed defensive structure of play by the whole team.
