This could actually generate some more offense. McLeod is good at driving the puck into the zone/getting pucks out of corners, Bastian is great at tips/rebounds/screens, and this allows Holtz to just think about firing the shot.
Similarly, Lazar drives energy and board battles in the third line allowing Mercer and Haula to think more about getting in front of the net/in the slot for a shot.
It allows the 3rd and 4th line to play a simple type of hockey while the 1st and 2nd play a more creative/dynamic style. All four lines could, hypothetically, produce offense.
Then again…not sure it’s offense we’re lacking here.

Annnnd this is my issue with Lindy. Holtz wasn’t even that bad and he’s the one who gets shafted. Just trade him at thos point if he’s always gonna be the one this happens to

The most concerning element is the poor play of Schmid. His save percentage of 0.863% makes me nostalgic for Blackwood. Unless our collective defensive efforts don’t improve, this season will be very disappointing.

Nice that Lazar got a « promotion » after playing his bag off, but don’t love breaking up the chemistry of the fourth line. Don’t really think Holtz will be put in a good spot there.
Would love to see another dman get a shot over Smith tho.

Lazar has been playing very very well, but I don’t think they should break up that Lazar – Mcleod – Bass line.
At this point, might as well trade Holtz and give him an opportunity somewhere else.
D is a problem, seems like we need to score 4+ every night to win.

I don’t get why Ruff doesn’t try the Meier-Hischier-Holtz line. Did it all pre-season, but he couldn’t do it at the start of this season? The first couple of games the schedule was relatively soft.

I’d rather see Palat move down to the third line and shift Mercer to wing with Nico and Bratt. Palat has never meshed well with those two.

Our issue last game was largely on the defense and goaltending. Everyone had a terrible game there. Smith is awful, but I also don’t know if subbing in an AHL’er in Foote makes sense.
I get wanting to make a change to make some sort of change, but I don’t think we can make a change where we need to given our current roster.

Holy shit the state of this sub you’d think we were 0-5-1. CHILL. There have certainly been some messy gaps but Jesus Christ it’s been 6 games into a season with 4-5 day gaps between games. Lots of departures in the offseason and expectations as high as ever it was never going to be easy for them. It’s gotta take a bit longer to hit the panic button ffs. Also Lindy was gonna catch shit if he changes the lines and he’s gonna catch shit if he keeps them the same. Fuck you all I hope to see you in the game thread tn.

I don’t know what they want Holtz to be. Is he supposed to be a secret discount goal scorer or is he supposed to be a physical presence? How can you expect him to get going on the fourth line? He should be playing next to Mercer & Haula.

Either the lines are great and everyone is happy or the lines are not so great and they get tweaked in-game.
Nothing to see here, everyone calm down and look forward to a complete 60 minute showing tonight capped off with Jack hitting 20 points on the season with a primary assist on the OT winner to Luke.
