Wearing an ad ≠ permission to take part in. It’s harsh yeah but let’s stop acting like these guys are children that have no self control. They know the rules. If their paycheck isn’t motivation enough to follow those rules, that’s their problem.

Utter bullshit and the height of hypocrisy. I can’t stand watching the shit because it’s constantly talking about gambling. Even the broadcast has guys doing gambling plugs. FUCK THIS SHIT!
that-bro-dad
Right? That’s pretty much what we’re all thinking right?
Markussh98
Except that’s not what he got suspended for. You can gamble legally on other sports if you’re an NHL player. What he was doing was proxy betting which is not legal and there is a non zero chance his proxy bet on hockey.

As I said before. Stupid business move for the MHL to not accept betting money

I don’t understand why you can’t bet on your own team to win. I realize that’s not what happened here but I’m just saying

He must have done something worse…gambling alone can’t be that bad
Wrath_Of_Aguirre
And a suspension 4 times longer than any suspension you get for plays that seriously injure players.

The same problem plagues the footballing world. So many betting websites, especially overseas, are the main kit sponsor for most clubs. Hell, some entire leagues are sponsored by betting sites. And the governing bodies are surprised that their athletes are betting all the time… wonder where they got the idea…
FA_Off
He got suspended for betting on NHL games, doofus. Did y’all learn nothing from Pete Rose?

The league gets dumber every day.

The NHL and the other major sports leagues in America are an absolute joke. Open to highest bidder. Disgusts me how this league is turning into NASCAR with the OBNOXIOUS amount of advertising. Especially on the uniforms/helmets.
And the icing on the cake is the BLATANT double standard.

Yup. You’re opening the door to this

Wasn’t Kane doing the same thing?

Dumb take.

I get the irony, but it’s only because it’s Pinto wearing the helmet. He got caught. Professional sport’s leagues are pretty serious about their players not betting on games within the league they play. One of the best ball players of all time, Pete Rose was caught betting on MLB games (and games he was playing in) and was suspended for life and disqualified from becoming a member of the HOF (which based on his numbers is a no brainer).
Pinto used a proxy to bet. Not sure if they (NHL) specifically found a direct link between the proxy bets and NHL games, but why use a proxy at all if you’re not betting on NHL games? NHL players can bet all they want on other professional sport’s leagues.
MountainBearr
What!? The guy got half the season on vacation for betting?? Damn that’s brutal. Edit: Actually, lol. The biggest irony is that the commissioner (if you can even call him that lol) is named Bettman.

Not really, maybe if you’re 14 you’d think this.

He definitely did something super shady though because NHL players are allowed to bet on non NHL events.
The Athletic reported that he had known to be connected to proxy bettors.
NHL also said he wasn’t wagering on NHL.
So you gotta think he was using proxy bettors to bet and that the NHL can’t prove he bet on NHL events.
The suspension was negotiated so it’s likely Pinto thought of left up to NHL, the suspension might have been longer even if he would’ve been able to appeal.
That all screams ‘i used a proxy to bet on NHL’ to me.

There’s the not betting on NHL games, but could be betting on players or stats. That’s totally legal jargon they can use, and avoid throwing the book at him.
