#shanepinto #hockey #nhl #ottawasenators #suspension

  1. Pierre LeBrun – Pinto's suspension is retro-active to the Senators' first game of the season. I don't believe he would sign with the team now until he has served his suspension in January. The Dec. 1 RFA signing deadline doesn't apply to him because he's not Group 2 (can't sign an offer sheet).

  2. Sports betting has become a Pox on our society and no one is immune from it. Except me because I have a brain.

  3. I’m sick and fucking tired of all the sports betting going on and being advertised. When sports media constantly talks about “the line” or the over under on games like they are meaningful stats, it’s a problem. When football coaches are getting blasted for kicking “meaningless field goals” at the end of games because it ruins someone’s bets, there’s a problem.

Get a grip for shit’s sake.

  4. This is misleading. There isn't, and probably will never be, enough information available to know exactly what Pinto did to get suspended. Players are allowed to gamble. One just has to look Evander Kane's history to realize this. It is when that player's actions can effect the integrity of the game will the league step in and punish the player, and rightfully so.

The adverts on the helmets, and on the boards, and during commercial breaks and during broadcasts aren't directed towards the players, they are directed towards the viewing public. The NHL, broadcasters and Teams are first and foremost a business. Blame being in a capitalist society, but increasing the revenue of the product is the leagues ultimate goal. Gambling products and the advertising revenue they generate for the league helps fulfill this.

  5. The NHL have leaned hard into sports betting, the Senators even have gambling ads on their helmets, and then they suspend him?

  6. I think that most of the commercials are for gambling! Gambling apps and casino adverts are exploding. We don't need that in our society. Sure, gamble through legal outlets if you like, just don't promote them. They got rid of cigarette ads many years ago and you can still buy them. If the governments weren't making a fortune off of this it would be gone. They legalized pot as a way to get even more tax money from you. They want your tax money and they couldn't give a sh*t how crummy your life is.

  7. Head tackle on Laine = 4 games
Gambling on other sport (no victim) = 41 games

This reveals NHL cares more about making money than preventing serious injuries

  8. I think such a huge suspension for gambling, no matter how severe(considering we don't know the extent of what he did) is absolutely insane when you have players like Perry, Marchand, and many more literally trying to injure people and getting absolutely jack for it. (Marchand punching kneeling players in the back of the head really stands out in my memory), and now he is a Captain…kind of messed up what they are doing.

  9. I’ve seen all those ads for the gambling site and just shake my head. I always felt that gambling was just throwing your money away, kind of like the Lottery where the odds are you will never win. This is a surprise, not that he does this but that they haven’t signed him yet. They have to know what they have available and to offer someone more than they afford is pretty crazy. I would like to know what this kid did to deserve a 41 game suspension for.
