There’s no way losing Graves,Severson hurt the defense this bad. I refuse to believe it. It’s not like Graves/Severson were out on the ice for half the game. It’s mainly goaltending. We can’t continue to justify sub .900 goaltending or we’re going to waste the beginning of our cup window away

Great game but this defense holy shit is smelly dumpster garbage. Sorry but Luke isn’t NHL ready, Brendan is shit and Siegs sucks this year.

* Hoping Nico has the recovery and rest he needs and comes back when he’s good and ready and not a moment sooner. We have a game on Sunday, but then we won’t play until Thursday, so plenty of time for him to right himself. We love you, Nico!
* As Bill and Dano said, this was our most complete game. I said before the game I wanted to see **five** things specifically: more shots, better start, less defensive mishaps, better zone exits, and solid goaltending.
* I think we saw three out of the five which is a good start and a really important improvement to acknowledge.
* Our defensive whoopsies were annoying af tho. I hope we get those cleaned up asap.
* Second period was a bit sloppy I’d say, but still one of the better games we’ve played so far. Still need a full sixty minute effort. I’m sure we’ll get it soon enough.
* Really happy to see the PK be 100% tonight. I hope thats a trend that will continue.

According to hockey stats cards gamescore, for all goalies who have played 3 or more games this season Vitek Vanecek is ranked 42/51, and Akira Schmid 48/51. Early doors yet, but not helping my pre-season goalie jitters.
I figured it would take 20-30 games before our d settled in.
Our offense though, god damn we can score.

Lindy says they held Nico out purely for precautionary reasons. Raises the question of why the caution wasn’t there in the 2nd, but still sounds not nearly as bad as it could be.

Wow. Just wow. Smith and Luke were horrible. Haula and Holtz looked good in their roles. This is one of the first games where I’m saying Vanecek needs to have at least one more of those, this should not have been as close as it was. Hope Nico’s ok but not too worried.

Wild game but really fun to watch live for my first in-person game of the season. The collective gasp in horror when Haula’s stick broke on the empty net chance and resulting fear that this would absolutely be the way the Sabres would’ve tied it was hilarious to experience with 16,000 others instead of just me and my cats on the couch.
This season is gonna be a work in progress so all you can really do is enjoy the ride and also accept that it’s a weird start to the NHL season as a whole (seriously, who expected Chicago to give Vegas their first loss of the year?).
We just need .915 collective goaltending and we are going to win a lot of games.
We still need to do something to shore up the goaltending. VV makes some great saves which he has no business saving with highlight reel moves…but then seemingly lets shit in that should be routine saves.
I wish we just had consistent goaltending, man. We fix that problem and we smoke everyone in this league.

I have been very judgemental about Holtz, but not nearly as much as everyone sh!t talking the decision to put him with McCloud and Bastian and I think tonight was the best game he has ever played as a devil.
This team is not going to win 16 games in May and June. Hughes, Bratt, Mercer, Holtz all look great but this team is going to be the equivalent of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Look fantastic … no defense no hitting and no Cup.
This team needs a 25-25-100 guy like JT Miller or Jason Zucker. A Randy McKay for the older types.
