Maybe… hes good and has a heck of a shot. But he hasnt played Pro hockey yet. Most of the guys he plays against will end up with a career other than hockey player.
Im not saying hes gonna bust or anything but to assume he’ll walk in and be a 25g guy bc he has the shot… idk. I would bet on waiting and developing more. Scoring in pros is a lot tougher and you need to do a lot of things well on a shift before you get to the shot. Esp. with Torts as a coach.
And… Gauthier isnt so good that Flyers can stop getting top 5 picks. Is he a winger? is he a center? first or second line? no idea. Philly is still very much on the EARLY ON and Nothing Guaranteed part of the rebuild. They need many more pieces not just one stud Dman. They could need 2 top 6 centers still!
Him and Michkov are definitely giving me some hope for the future
Gauthier may legitimately have the most impressive raw toolkit of any prospect in hockey. His shot is insane and his ability to skate with the puck in transition is like watching a freight train go through a picket fence.
His overall production is slightly below where I think you’d hope it’d be for him given his expectations and I still have some concerns about his hockey IQ (although i wonder if some of these concerns can be attributed to linemate issues), but I think at a minimum his shot alone will make him an effective goal scorer at the NHL level, and he’ll certainly be the most exciting rookie we’ve had in at least 5 years when he gets here
What about Massimo Rizzo absolutely crushing so far with 14 points in 6 NCAA games?
6G 1A 7P in 6 games in your draft +2 year on a loaded team as a former 5th overall pick isn’t all that encouraging.
