1. Red Wings fan here. This was an emotional rollercoaster. At the start of the series, I said I'd be thrilled if the Wings took the Hawks to 7. Then, once up 3-1, I felt it would be disappointing if they lost the series. Crazy how expectations really do shape how you emotionally react to the final result.

I wasn't very sad Detroit lost this, bc they blew a 3-1 with only one home game in hand. It's always much worse blowing a 3-1 as the higher seed. The really disappointing part was entering the 3rd period of game 6 with a lead and not closing. I was stunned they hung as well as they did in game 7, but the series was Chicago's once they won that game in Detroit.

Regardless, I have the utmost respect for the Blackhawks of the early 2010s. What a core, man.

  2. Yeah this one hurt really bad for us Wings fans. I feel like if they'd gotten past Chicago they would have won another cup.

  3. Heartbreaking series for the wings. Still think, "what if" to this day. That Nyquist goal to open game 3 was a thing of beauty

  4. When the Hawks and Wings meet in the playoffs, and any other time for that matter, the records get thrown out the window. I forgot this briefly in 2013. So confident my Hawks would sweep the Wings that year, I bought tickets to game 4 at the Joe. As I walked out being down 3 games to 1, I wished some Wings fans that I talked to during the game good luck in the next round. Hawks won the Cup in 2010, then had to blow up the team. After the game 4 loss in this series, I truly thought they would never win the Cup again. I'm glad I was wrong! I really miss this rivalry.

  5. I remember in game 7 Chicago scored the go-ahead goal with 2 minutes left but it was waved off because some players were fighting in the background, so a penalty was called.
The Hawks still won in OT though.

  6. Late in the third period of game seven, Nick Hjallmersson scored what should have been the game winner. It was waived off because one of the refs called coincidental roughing minors 50 some feet from the puck. Though the Hawks went on to win, I'm still surprised that ref got out of the building alive.

  7. This series really pissed me off for a few days lol the wings played ridiculously good and as a huge wings fan they were really surprising me. That was a weird shortened season and the wings just slipped into the playoffs. If we get past the hawks who knows what happens.

  8. Really miss Detroit in the west. They had great rivalries between the Avs, Hawks, and Ducks

  9. This will always be my favorite series of that dynasty; finally giving a middle finger in the greatest way possible to the "always in the playoffs" bastards from Detroit, en route to a Stanley Cup

  10. This is one of my favorite series. Great game 7. That Seabrook goal is a top 5 all time hockey moment for me.

I miss the Wings in the central too. Though now almost all of my hatred for them has transferred to the Blues.

  11. Anyone else remember the goal that was called back late in game 7 ? That game 7 was intense

  12. Fun fact: Frolik is the only player to score on 2 penalty shots in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
I remember on the broadcast they brought up the list of previous penalty shot attempts in the playoffs and the most recent one before that game was Frolik's previous shot against Vancouver in 2011.

  13. Look at that wings roster good god. Datsyuk and zetterberg absolutely carried the wings from 2013-2016. There was no reason those rosters should have been making the playoffs, let alone winning games there.

  14. My brother bet my dad a box of donuts that the Hawks would come back after game 4. We all thought he was crazy.

He ended up getting that box of donuts.
