I doubt we do a direct trade with EDM (no cap space and what would they actually give us that we want?), but I could see Tanev going home to VAN.
I still think that when the dust settles we might keep Hanifin.
My guess is we trade these players to get an under-performing player and prospects or draft picks. I could see the Flames trying to acquire Bertuzzi and Minten (as an example) from Toronto for someone like Hanifin or Tanev. They would likely need to move a salary as big as Bertuzzi’s to make the cap work, he could probably benefit from being elevated in the line-up, and the Flames could get a prospect who will likely be a NHL center in a couple seasons.
I dont see why we would trade with Edmonton. To make them better? No Thanks. Rather lose Hanifin for free then see him play for them.
Tanev to Vancouver is super realistic, but since they are a rival, premium return.
All our UFAs could get us a huge haul of prospects and draft picks.
We already have a decent amount of U24 players and if we can add to that, we might only bad for a year or 2
Trading with Edmonton should be an instant firing. Worst thing Sutter ever did was to normalize that, and that too just to get Staois.
As long as the Flames look to futures rather than more ‘competitive’ pieces, this is good news. Don’t repeat the mistakes of Feaster trade premium assets for more Hanowsksi’s, Cundari’s, and Agostino’s. But given market conditions, doubt we see a move until closer to the trade deadline.
