He went out on his terms and I respect that. He won a Cup and lived the dream for years. He’s loved by people all around world. And he’s never going to be forgotten.
This is, for me, a situation where « don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happens » definitely seems to ring true. I hope he can live a pain free retirement and play with his kids and have a fulfilling life post-hockey. And I hope he makes cameo appearances in DC from time to time.

I am curious why he’s not retiring and just taking a leave. If his issue isn’t resolved by now it doesn’t make sense that he just needs more time. Brooks Laich was similar. It’s hard to leave the only thing they know but they can still be around the game and I’m sure play some sort of non professional league.
