  1. The Leafs have the exact same problem they've had ever since their rebuild: their defense sucks.

They've been able to get through each season because their offense was, and continues to be, one of the most terrifying for any goalie in the league. But their blue line has consistently been their weak spot, and they haven't had a good enough goalie to compensate. Samsanov was good last year (not great, but good), but he has gotten off to a legitimately awful start this year. Woll is showing a lot of promise, but he's too new for us to be relying on him to steal games for us, especially since this season will be a real test for his future as a starting goalie. Even if Woll turns out to be a future great, if the team in front of him leaves him out hanging to dry, he's not going to be able to stop every opportunity for the opposition. No goalie can. That's why even though Samsanov has not been performing well, putting all the blame on him is shortsighted as well. A lot of the shots he has had to deal with never should have happened in the first place.

Right now, the Core 4 are playing out of their god damn minds. This has potential to be Matthew's best season so far if he keeps going at this rate, and that's without going into the other core members, and Knies continuing to prove himself with each game. But with the Leaf's defense being even WORSE than last year, and losing some of the scoring depth they had over the Summer, that's just NOT ENOUGH. The Leafs being able to score 5 goals a game doesn't matter if their opponents can score 6.

  2. CJ an insider. Give me a break. It’s so funny watching these “insiders” give their opinions. They say a lot but it’s all nonsense.

  3. The leafs have a lot of talent, but no heart, and no competitive drive. They need to function more as a team that wants to win at all costs, and less like they are still playing pre-season games.

  4. Leafs have skill but lack good D and G. They have no heart. Just look at they have Reaves but after Marchand hit to Liligren he did nothing. Nobody went to injured Leaf to see if he’s ok or not. Liligren wasn’t at Marners wedding. There is a divide.
