The whole defence has been trash for the most part (besides Rielly), but Gio has been really bad. Really not liking him on the PK.

That 3 minute stretch felt like that elevator scene in the Departed. Except it was just the leafs getting shot in the face over and over.

Klingberg could go down as one of the worst signings in recent history
The reality is this team let go of guys like Kerfoot, Holl, Engvall, who were all very flawed but end of day provided value defensively to offset the offensive players. We replaced them with many guys who have almost no defensive value – domi, Klingberg, Bertuzzi – and now seem shocked at why the team defense sucks.
The back end getting healthy will definitely help this but I think there are deeper issues here.
3-3 with less than 10 minutes to go in the 3rd at home against a non-playoff team. We needed at least a point tonight.

I think at the very least we can exclude Domi from the “terrible signing” conversation now. He’s definitely picked it up.
This team is just not good folks. Defense is a massive hole. Goaltending is iffy. I believe will is a good goalie but how can he perform with garbage in front of him
Waive Klingberg please. Guy brings absolutely nothing to the team. Can’t shoot, can’t run the powerplay and is a pylon on defence. Might be the worst dman on this team since the Matthews era started.
I fucking knew Toronto was going to get Ottawa out of their slump. It’s only the Leafiest thing to do. No fucking kidding this team still plays down to weaker opponents.

Mediocre year incoming, they’ll barely make the playoffs, swift first round exit.
I don’t necessarily want to just dump all over Treliving, but whenever people talk about « can the Leafs win with so much money tied up in the core 4 », just remember that Brad tied almost $8mil up in Klingberg, Kampf, and Reaves. Those are the key players behind why our fourth line and « second » defensive pair are landmines every time they’re on the ice where we’re just begging not to get scored on.
Goaltending hasn’t been amazing, but honestly otherwise I don’t mind the rest of the team. The big 4 forwards have all been great, Rielly is having probably the best defensive season of his career. Knies belongs, Jarnkrok is reliable, even Domi and Bertuzzi seem to be getting it together a bit.
This is an overall fairly good team but with some **colossal** weak spots. They aren’t just kinda not good players, they’re absolute liabilities who tilt the ice so strongly in favour of our opponents.
And Reaves playing tough guy at the end trying to goad Kelly and McEwen into fights when we’re down by three. Fucking pathetic.
I don’t think any of our D played well tonight. Not even Rielly.

How many players on the leafs « underperform » who then leave and do just fine??? Answer is many of them. Some have won a cup after leaving.
