Thank god the season has a long way to go, but it’s painful right now. Not being able to stop other teams from scoring is pathetic right now. It’s more than just losing two solid d men, they need to tighten up all over. And they need their two best players back.

It’s ok to just admit the team is sucking. Don’t need to get all rabid for coach firings or changing one players lines etc. Just sit back and accept the bad hockey and get on with your lives

Expectations are hard to manage right now. Last year we wanted to see a team that pushed for a playoff spot, and obviously they over achieved. Every dominating win (or close one) felt like just gravy on top of an already successful season.

We have wildly different expectations this season. It’s certainly not cup or bust, but we expect to have a cohesive, competent unit of players that is jockeying for 1st in the metro all season.

It’s a long season, I’m optimistic, but it’s painful to watch right now when Meier, Toffoli, Bratt, and Palat – among others – should be more than enough to keep us looking strong until Jack and Nico get back.

Regarding defense, we all expected them to take a step back with the changes. Loved Severson for what he was, but hard to say his defensive game is what we’re missing. It doesn’t seem like we should be performing this much worse on D. Hopefully it’s an anomaly and we’ll regress to better results.

If we played the quality team defense we had last year, goaltending wouldn’t be as much of an issue. I don’t think that Vitek or Akira will necessarily lead us to a cup, but they are good enough for us to perform if we can play a decent game in front of them.

Jack and Nico, please get well soon.

  4. I think, what I’m struggling with, is that this is basically everything going according to plan. This was meant to be a regression year where we get some new guys (namely Meier) acquainted to the team and try to get Luke and Nemec acclimated to the league. This is the year where we see if Akira is our goalie of the future or if big changes will be made. The year where we try to see what we have with Holtz and even Foote if he ever gets healthy.

It’s fucking painful to watch, and the last few games have been really upsetting on a deep level for me. I hate seeing the team look so utterly hopeless. And I totally get the anger and frustration and depression various people are expressing after every game. But I think it’s just part of the process? It’s where we were supposed to be at this point before the anomaly that was last season. We got our hopes up based off of how amazingly they played last year and then the projections for this year, and forgot that we were getting ahead of ourselves.

I don’t know if that makes sense at all. And it might come off as condescending. That’s not the intent, I’m just trying to get the most vocally distraught fans to consider things from an angle other than “the sky is falling and they need to make drastic moves now,” because that kind of rhetoric only makes everyone on the game threads more distressed. This also might come off as copium because, let’s be real, thats mostly what it is. But the point stands. Patience. Because we’re exactly where we should reasonably be expected to be. Just have to trust in Fitz that we’ll keep on our upward trajectory. LGD.

And also fuck Tom Wilson. But mostly LGD.
