First off, fun fact: Gio scored his first two NHL goals against the Leafs on October 14th, 2006. Unfortunately, it was overshadowed by some guy named Mats Sundin, who scored his 500th goal (a hatty, in overtime, on the PK) in the same game. Pretty wild.
Auston is my current favourite Leaf – I hope he breaks all of Sundin’s records and raises the Cup with Sundin in attendance. But Mats will always be untouchable for me. It’s been an absolute joy to see him do media and interact with the team this week. I still get goosebumps whenever #13 crosses my timeline. I’m stoked to hear he’ll be coming to Toronto for All-Star weekend in February.
When I first joined Reddit and didn’t know how it worked, I replied to this thread titled « What made Sundin so good? » I didn’t know this site wasn’t my own personal blog (some things don’t change), so I took some time to write about what Mats meant to this little Leaf fan, the organization, and the city as a whole. If you’re in a nostalgic mood, feel free to read it [here.](https://www.reddit.com/r/leafs/s/NyHcCQYIWQ)
No matter how big you get, you never stop looking up to your heroes. It doesn’t always apply to everyone, but I’m lucky to say it still does for me.

It’s gotta be a pretty cool moment for Max to have his name read out for the starting lineup by Mats, who is also his godfather

All I took away from this is that Calle’s last name should be pronounced JAN-KROOK

Does anyone know why there’s certain names circled on the Wings depth chart?

As a huge Sens and Alfie fan, I’m happy to see this. Sundin is such a legend and brings back fun memories of classic battle of Ontario.
