  1. As a CIT ( Certified Ice Technician ) to quickly repair a ice divet or hole make sure you have some slush snow ( mostly snowy ice and a little bit of water ) a spray bottle and a cement trowel and/or puck. Pack in the hole or divet or rut, spray with a water bottle the top layer then impact it with a puck and smooth it with the trowel. in a minute or even less the fixed area will freeze and the game can be resumed. if you sit there and drown the area with a water bottle all you create is a water filled crater that will take forever to freeze. Then the home team trainer has to heat gun and sharpen or replace the refs blades and add another job to the millions of others he has to do. See you at NARCE 2024. First round at Big Ditch Brewing is on me!

  2. as someone who works at a small, local ice rink, this is exactly how its done. sometimes we even use a puck to try and flatten things out. ive always found it funny how they do the same seemingly lazy fix even at the highest level

  3. I was reffing a college game and there was a big hit along the boards that flexed the boards and caused the ice to break and pop out. Had to fill it with a couple shovels of snow and ice, then topped it off with a hearty spray of a fire extinguisher to make it freeze immediately. It made a mess, but we were playing again in 10 minutes!

  4. why is one of the refs using goalie skates? as a goalie i thought only we could use those. (i have flat feet and i heard that goalie skates are much more comfortable for flat feet, maybe he preferred goalie skates?)
