Losses suck but this was necessary. A piece of humble pie will go a long way.
From positive perspective – we are one game closer to Fox coming back, Jones sucks.
Solid 2 periods followed by a completely dumpster juice 3rd. This is our *checks notes* *third* regulation loss? Look I know that last period was a circus there, but I can’t say I’m not impressed with the fact we only have 3 reg losses a month into the season. If that’s the case I think this team is in pretty good shape. Dallas is doing just as well this season, and it was only a matter of time an equally good team got our number. Goodrow rides pisshole for his brain dead penalty, and quite honestly, we could blame the entire downfall of the game squarely on him with that bullshit. Regroup and take it to the pens.
See you Wednesday.
Mika looks lost man
We’re 12-3-1 to start the season, I’ll become worried if we lose to Dallas again later in the season.
It’s nice looking forward to the coaches presser even after a bad loss
Tough loss tonight, the wheels really fell off the bus in the 3rd period. No one really looked great tonight. Still not big on Jones and Schneider as a pairing—Jones really struggles to defend the crease, and Scheider has been pretty sloppy with the puck all season. Don’t really have an alternative right now, but tonight was a night where you really miss someone like Fox. Same goes for missing Fil. It’s a lot harder to have 3 lines that are scoring threats when your 3C is Nick Bonino.
Still, though, 12-3-1 is a great record and Dallas are legitimate cup contenders. Important game Wednesday.
Even strength points:
Mika: 3
———
Chytil: 5
Schnieder: 5
Cuylle: 4
Kakko: 4
Wheeler: 3
Mika makes $8.5M. The other 5 guys make a combined $9M.
Is there a group or a thread beforehand for those of us traveling in for the game?
Am Austin based, lucked out and sat in a Rangers-centric section last time I went but was pretty isolated this time. It was pretty tough.
Gotta think Lav makes some changes for next game. Bread- Zib – Laf has to be the first line and if Zib still can’t get going with Bread and Laf move Trocheck up.
Laf was on FIRE tonight, Wedgewood played great and the puck didn’t go in but if he keeps playing like that he’s gonna put up numbers. His first 3 chances were all high danger chances that could have been goals and that was just in the 1st period.
The right wing and center depth is glaring. Trocheck taking a step up and playing as well as he is helps a lot and if Zib gets going we should be fine at center. Pitlick being the weakest link imo. Bonino isn’t great but his impact on the PK and shot blocks is very useful.
I’m very worried about Chytil at this point, he didn’t come out producing but was just starting to click when he got injured and to be out this long he is going to have to build his game back up. I wonder even if he comes back. The fact that he hasn’t even skated alone yet is very worrisome. Players go through these periods of concussions and can come out of it but most likely he’ll have to be placed on LTIR and sit out the rest of the season. Just for his long term health
I mean, these losses happen to every team, so I’m not mad about that. But there are definitely some glaring issues that this team has been covering up with some inspired play.
Jones-Schneider has been a disaster and while I really want it to work, they really need to get it together in the d zone. Schneids in particular handles the puck like it’s a ticking time bomb and it gets them pinned down constantly.
Mika has been plain bad. For all the shit Kakko gets on this sub, he was 100% not the problem on that line. Especially without Chytil for who knows how long, this team is going to really need him.
While I really do like him, I’m still not convinced that Cuylle is anything more than a fourth line player. Which isn’t a bad thing, just how it is.
While igor has had a shaky return, it’s ridiculous to get up in arms about it at this point. He is a proven elite player and he will bounce back as he always does.
Overall, roll with the punches and on to pitt. LGR.
On a positive, Laf was coooooking tonight. Looked good.
Nobody’s gonna mention Key’s several turnovers? Not a great game for him. Impossible toe drag through your legs flying into the zone
Mika genuinely looks like he doesn’t know how to play hockey. His shooting as a whole has been impotent, he’s passing up opportunities he should take. Jones unfortunately really doesn’t have what it takes to play in the NHL right now. His passing/breakout is fantastic but he’s been lacking the physicality and awareness necessary to pick up his man
Opened this thread saw 8 college level lengthened essays, they looked outta of it but I’m gonna treat this the same way I did the Nashville game onto the next.
I got faith Lavi will hold them accountable and learn from this.
Team looked like last years rangers today. Forcing the extra pass and getting out hustled to every puck. Hoping igor is just dealing with rust and not playing injured. Would rather have igor miss a few more games and comeback at 100% than force him to aggravate an injury and play hurt all year.
Rough game. Not shocked by the loss. Figured we were due for a stinker.
Think the 2nd period and those long changes killed us. Came out so flat in the 3rd…probably jet lag and beer.
Kakko needs to go back to the first line. Wheeler is a beer league player at best today, he just can’t be playing on the 1st line.
Kreider and mika have to be broken up. Might as well put Kreider on the 3rd line see if that changes the 3rd line from its present black hole status.
Since Bonino has started centering the 3rd line the 4th line has look stupendously better and has the points to back that statement. Sure one of you psychos could verify if that is correct. Pitlick should never sit for Bonino again. Here is to Chytil getting healthy and coming back.
Overall not a bad loss. Felt the effort was there most of the night….. just a off night. I will say did notice that Dallas double teamed Panarin every time he touched the puck and just like all the other times teams do that ….we lose because his linemates are not scoring/creating like him. But that is what happens when 1 player is carrying a team. This team is going to be scary if Mika gets going also.
If we want to walk away from this week with some sort of winning record Mika is going to have to find his game. Otherwise this is going to be a long week because I know Pitt and Boston are going to double Panarin all game.
This team can’t keep having its #1 line not produce. We have a nice lead in the Metro so why not try some things out.
Put Laf on the 1st Powerplay. Fucking do it.
kakko is such a non factor he looks lost out there
The team that played for more of the game won tonight. We got out-battled too many times, and a good team like the Stars will bury those mistakes and chances more often than not.
Can’t win them all, but we’re going to need more from Mika if we want to sustain our place in the league.
Schneider is reminding me of a prior #4 who had a very promising first year and then sucked year 2. Let’s hope he doesn’t follow the MDZ’s career path.
That should be Zac Jones last game in NHL
Can’t win em all – oh well. Shesty needs to work off that rust, he’ll get there.
This is a Dallas team that needed to win tonight after their game against Colorado, and they played like they needed that win. We played like a road team that coasted after we put up 2 goals and the more desperate team won. That is often how it goes in the NHL. Now we’re a team that needs to win the next after tonight, so lets see that effort in Pittsburgh
Honestly, this was a game where if you look at, the Rangers were in control. But, it wasn’t written in the stars tonight(no pun intended).
Mika and Kreids are M.I.A. , Key sucked tonight defensively, and finally, missing on chances in the o zone. Dallas looked like a possible Stanley Cup contender. Gotta play better. No exceptions.
Having said that, can’t win em all, and Bread can’t get points in all 82 games. Only 3 regulation losses( I think) going into the last game before Thanksgiving? I’d take that any day.
But at the end of the day, everyone, relax PLZ!!!!!!!!! It should give the Rangers and fans faith that they can play w/the best teams.
Move on from this one. Onto the Penguins.
Has anyone been keeping track of when Fox is eligible to return to the lineup? It has to be pretty soon, right?
82 games in the season and they didn’t play great it happens. People need to stop whining about Mika’s 5 on 5 point stats and Kakko stats in general. Both guys will figure it out so please relax
Mika needs a new cast around him. A non scoring first line is unsustainable long term. I suggest kakko and cuylle. Or maybe even giving vesey a shot to play some big minutes. Mika also just needs to loosen up, his first touches and decision making this game were terrible, you can tell he’s forcing things now.
Panarin being involved in almost 60% of our goals is not a recipe for success and sooner or later he will slump, need to find other ways to produce. That’s what scares me most – this amazing start to the season has been predicated on one of the best starts to a season we’ll ever see by one player.
Brenner Schneider had such an ugly turnover that probably cost the game.
Really bad challenge by Lav. Can’t do that there with the time remaining, not sure what the point was. Upside is NYR are like 0-9 on reviewed goals now so we can continue to run with the conspiracy that the league is out to get them.
Laffy looked amazing. I wasn’t fully sold on him coming into form this season, felt his hot start was mostly due to playing with Panarin, but in this game he looked truly dominant on some shifts and had like 3-4 high danger chances himself.
Odd thing to say but this was a good loss imo. They still looked strong for a good portion of the game against a top team on the road, but also I think it’ll be a bit of a wake up call that just because the record is good, there’s a lot of holes that need to be addressed. Onward
