@Islanders de New York

1. …..hope no one gets upset….but I agree….something is off with one of the goalies….I truly see that the two goalies work hard … but it is time for a change with one of them. The islanders need a hot new goalie….perhaps one of the current goalies will do extremely well on another team….

  2. He hasn’t played well this whole season I mention this a few times already and everybody keeps saying oh it’s the team in front of him yeah but also him not playing well as well

  3. Ilya cannot play more than 50 games a year. He’s elite when he gets ALOT of rest. If he plays everyday he’s just average… Looking at some of the Kraken game , man Eberle was a huge loss…

  4. 1. Facing that 35-40 shot barrage every start while starting 2 out of every three games could be wearing sorokin down already.
    2. The comfort of long term security contract = drop off in play.
    3. The toll of pressure of having to play perfect every game for isles to win as they struggle to score 3 goals per game could be taking a toll. Three seasons of this shit now for sorokin.
-Needs to address-A boost in offense gpg game would help remedy some of the pressure on illya. Especially scoring wing to go with 13, 14. Of course we know buffoon gm is incapable/handcuffed from doing that. Or just go back to a complete shut down vet coach like a tippet and win 2-1 type games the rest of the way. If isles stay at playoff line that first is going by tdl. Better hope it fetches a scoring wing-somehow. ufa to be needing to be signed most likely like a lindholm. Trade 26 with that first another piece like the bo deal. Maybe flames knowing lindholm is gone with their season going no where will take a bad deal like 44 or 27 back with an isle retain of salary in the deal. Or move 44 who = lindholm deal out at tdl to do deal. Maybe a ltir helps isles out?
-What we know about isles-20 games in it is just like predicted. A borderline playoff team that will straddle the playoff line the rest of season with usual 2.7 gpg avg. with a sorry pk and inexpliciable blown leads along the way. Of course with an older team isles could just fall off a cliff at any time the rest of the way. Still a team not good enough to contend yet not bad enough to fall into prime draft territory thanks to goaltending. Sorry to say this but isles really need to start bottoming out to force louzer to get rid of old dead weight-begin a redo starting up front or force ownership to get off their ass and find a gm that will do that. Very predictable team. We know this-lame goes before louzer does. And isles have two capable goalies and a team struggling out west oil with a desperate gm holland on his last year of deal there. Maybe they could take bad campbell deal back oil first for varly. Just sayin'… This team will be into painful re-build as sorokin hits 30. Could just wear down as deal ages too.

  5. Come on Sorokin is our McDavid, look at his life time stats his record might never be broken in the KHL, Olympics, World Cup, he faces 35 shots a game and there’s plenty of times he’s left dead in the water, the last player on the team we should worry about, again Lane Lambert, can you imagine how hard these guys would be playing if Rick Toccett were coach, we need a coach to tell a player you coach tonight and I’ll play and show you how is done, hopefully any day we’ll get the news that we have a new coach 🙏

  6. i am happy to see this video and yes i agree ilya is off. i don't care that he's facing 30-35 shots a night…it's still the percentage that matters and he's around 890 on all his losses and giving up 4 + every night. the way this team is built we need ilya to be ilya and better than perfect

  7. How can you blame him given the ammount of shots he's taken and the quality of opportunities the team has given up. You can't blame him for the garbage in front of him. These numbers are misleading.

  8. This team is 6-11. They are awful. Nothing more to say. Sorokin is going to regret the day he signed that extension.

  9. I think there are several factors. 1) I think this year's team is not as good as last year's so the volume of shots has increased 2) Motivation in decline 3) The pressure to cover for the team has increased. 4) The quality of scoring opportunities he's facing has increased. I think Varley should be traded because he's one of the few players on the Isles worth a quality return from another team.

  10. Hi Gil, it could be because the defense is so/so this year..lane lambert playing more offense 🎉as bad as the islanders have been we are right there for the last playoff spot. Guaranteed you , the rangers might win first place but will get knocked out in the playoffs and Boston too. Gil have a great thanksgiving 🎉going to the islander game Wednesday 😮

  11. Hey Gil…once again, thank you for covering the team we all love. Listen, I've commented about this before, and here I go again…
The Islanders need line changes and to bench some players.

Line 1: Nelson, Barzal and Holstrom
Line 2: Horvat, Engvall and Gauthier
Line 3: Cizikas, Fasching and Palmieri
Line 4: Pageau, Clutterbuck and Martin

They have to try something new since old man Lou hasn't gotten them any true goal scorers.

Add to this, he hasn't gotten them a really good left-handed defenseman who can carry the puck over the opponent's Blue line.

    Bench Lee as well!

  12. I have been thinking about what you mentioned about going more defensive to end last year on an upswing. But to be a real threat in this league, we do need the better balance between offense and defense than we had under Trotz. We also need younger players to develop, and Lane is hands down better at that than Trotz was.
IMO, Lane is still fumbling around to adjust his vision. Perhaps the 3rd period breakdowns are partially caused by a 'pour it on and build the lead' approach. All I know is our D-zone play has stunk all year. We're not clearing net front, not clearing the puck and not protecting against the east-west passing. Ilya has been screened and jumping from post to post way too often. It seems like Varly gets better D in front of him. Perhaps the Isles are taking Ilya for granted and playing loose. IDK, but the teams play is so uneven you don't know what you'll get period to period.
If we don't start playing 650 hockey, ownership should bite the bullet and step in with a new GM to make the tough decisions we'll need to make.
There were times I had hope the team was on the verge of getting it and finding success. That hope has faded. The only thing that hides how bad we are is the 4 teams directly ahead of us in the standings having their own issues.

  13. Good morning team. Gil, thanks again for another great show! I totally agree with the other comments. Sorokin faces way too many shots and in my opinion, is called upon to play too many games. Varly should be able to take 30-35 games. As long as they are placed strategically, neither goalie should feel too exhausted by the end of the season. Playoffs is something else, if we make it to the post season. #fingercrossed
Looking forward to tomorrow's episode. Maybe we have a good game against the Flyers tomorrow, if we can keep the shots to under 30. Everyone have a great rest of the day! Until tomorrow.. Let's Go Islanders!!

  14. Gil, Ilya right now reminds me of Denis Lemieux from Slapshot who sat in the locker room between periods shell shocked and flailing around .. you’d slack off too if everyone around you is playing like a bunch of traffic cones.

  15. Gil… It's not Soroky! It's that D, that was 5th GAA last yr! That I THOUGHT would improve as I've said for months. That certainly hasn't happened at least yet! Look at the TERRIBLE penalties that we've taken! Look at the 3 period energy level downfall and therefore penalties. I don't think is sorokin at all

  16. It is only 3 good players so far Sorokin Horvat an Barzal rest of them not worth to talk about….Ilija have right to be 90% in some games without him probable we be behinde sharks….

  17. So play Varlomov a little more until Sorokin can find his game. That’s why you resign Varlomov.

  18. Going to have a down year as the defense is lacking and don’t see a change in that dept.
