My 2 cents:
The Sens have slightly surpassed my pre-season expectations for them so far.
What were my pre-season expectations?
The Sens would end up 6th in the Atlantic (with the points difference between 2nd and 6th in the division being minimal).
What was my pre-season prediction based on?
1) The team would get off to a slow start. Good starts are partly a function of coaching and with DJ at the helm another slow start would follow.
2) Injuries would befall the team given there are too many key Sens players that have an injury history (Korpi, Greig, Norris, Chabot, Chychrun, Brannstrom, Forsberg etc).
3) If our A level talent got injured the team would fail to replace the injuries with adequate-level depth. I viewed our depth more at a C level.
4) The Sens' team D can be described as poor. While this element will improve during the season, particularly from our young players, it won't catch on quick enough to save the season.
5) I did believe our C level depth would improve during the season but not at a quick enough rate to save the season. Thus, our C level talent would progress to B level by season's end.
Final thoughts: The depth has looked good so far and players like Joseph have bounced back well. If the Sens survive December that will enormously improve their chances for a playoff spot.
