This is such a close season thus far that honestly I don’t think the Thanksgiving rule is going to apply.

I’d say the Caps are out and Devils are in.
Just a hunch.

Not saying it’s going to happen but even Boston isn’t out of reach technically. There’s almost no statistically important separation between teams in the Atlantic. I’ve never been so unsure of how things will end up.

Like Ken was saying last night during the broadcast, teams that are within four points of a playoff spot on Thanksgiving are still very much in the hunt, and that’s… most teams in the in the Eastern Conference.
There isn’t a single team in the Atlantic that I would say is out of contention. In the Metro it’s probably the same story, though the Blue Jackets are looking like they’re going to have to put a win streak together soon if they want to stay in the hunt.

We can take a non wildcard spot Friday by just beating Boston and needing Toronto and Tampa to lose in regulation. All of that at the same time feels like a big ask

Not sure how draft order is done, but let’s say Boston wins the presidents trophy again and loses in the first round. They would have pick 20? (16 non-playoff teams + 4 first round exit teams).
Of course they would give that pick to us for Bertuzzi and that means Ottawa would get that for Debrincat. Not a bad trade for us!

I don’t think anyways technically has a lead, but man if feels good to have 2 games less played than everyone around us and still to be in second
