I know we didn’t have the result last night but 41 shots and a fuck ton of posts we easily could have. Kid sat and watched most of the game with me yelling happily so it was sort of a win..

If anyone on here thinks even a win tonight fixes the deep issues with this team, you’re wrong. Even .500 hockey from now until January 1st and the season is lost. A lost season is totally unacceptable after a franchise record season last year. They have to win 5 of their next 7 or 8 out their next 10 to have a chance at saving the season. If they don’t, then what? Any chance at saving it early is now gone. Win or lose today, a change is needed now to keep playoff hopes alive this year.
1 win today means nothing the same way the win in Pittsburgh meant nothing. This team has major issues that only a new coach or trade could *potentially* fix. The team as constructed (including the coaches) do not and will not have the answers.

The season turns around when Lindy is fired. Plain and simple
Can we forfeit the rest of the season? Nothing to look forward to with Lindy behind the bench. We turn it around and we get bounced in 1st or 2nd round and it looks like the Carolina series again.
I would somewhat forgive Ruff for the shitty coaching if he at least looked fired up behind the bench when the camera turns to him instead of looking like a disappointed father with his sons. I’ve never seen any sort of urgency or passion from him.
Is it the Ruff D system? Or is it players simply playing dumb and low-intensity? Or is it that Ruff they have stopped listening to Ruff? Or is it roster losses (Graves, Severson, etc.) + injuries?
Well…it is a combination of three of the above. I am in the camp that believes that the leading problems are (1) the players themselves, and (2) roster changes + injuries. The Ruff D system perhaps compounds these issues.
I do not believe Ruff has ‘lost the locker room.’ Why? Becasue the does not happen in just two weeks. It would take a lot longer for players to flip from telling Fitz to retain Ruff to just tuning him out.
I believe the top problem is with the players themselves. We have seen this group play with intensity for the full 60 minutes about two or maybe three times this season.
The effort in Detroit was a total joke. Even before letting up three quick goals at the end of the 1st, the Devils were playing poorly. And then to play flat and generate just 6 SOG in the 1st against Columbus? You have to ask the players how they can turn in that type of low effort period one day after the closed door meeting.
Think to yourself, what would a tough, determined, unified team that has each other’s backs and could really use an emotional spark and a bonding moment do when they play the guy who knocked their captain out with a cheap shot?
Now watch the Devils do the exact opposite tonight.
