This team plateaued years ago. Time to make a change. Obviously not a lot can be done immediately but a coaching change would at least signal we’re trying and not content with what we have.
Married Marner is killing me. Guy is becoming a turnover machine.
I was at the game last night. Rare ($$$). Interesting to see how the game looks in person vs watching on tv with commentary. Most comments in our game thread were on point I thought. Marner looked lost. Matthews didn’t have much spark in his game but he got it going at times. Maybe hard when your linemate is confused. Willy looked awesome. JT played with spark but didn’t have much luck. Knies was solid. Bertuzzi has no clue where to be. Domi appeared useless. Credit to the Pens for fixing their porous D after the 1st. And WTF, Noel Acciarri played like prime Crosby.
Theory about our top guys. I have my doubts they simply flew to Sweden and back for a couple games and got jet lagged. I think they partied their asses off and are still shaking it off. Marner and Matthews looked ill.
Multiple things can kind of be true for this team. They’ve been unusually flat this season so far, which is disappointing – but also this “worst version” of the team is still in or near a playoff spot at this moment.
There are some concerns that’ll probably sort themselves out (Matthews and Marner will get back to their usual game) and others that may require addressing (likely a defenseman with the Klingberg cap space). But I think as fans we tend to get tunnel vision on the Leafs – we think that we’ve been a disaster while all of our contemporaries are just smooth sailing. But Carolina, Jersey, Tampa, Florida – they’re all having their own struggles as well. We’re in the mix, just like everyone else.
This weekend of games hasn’t been great, and the season as a whole has been a bit of a downer. But we’re in the mix, with time to turn things around. Form tends to be fickle and I’d be shocked if we don’t have a prolonged stretch of looking like a wagon again in the future.
Damn tough to win consistently in this league when you give up 3 or more almost every game.
D needs huge huge improvement. Both goalies need to be better. Woll hasn’t given up less than 3 in a start in a month and Sammy has been wildly up and down. Defensive schemes are horrible and D play from all D has only been consistent in terms of how diaappointing they are all playing.
This doesn’t even touch on how disappointing most forwards have been other than Willy in general.
Boston lost there top 2 Cs and are still a wagon we lose luke schenn and were mid
I feel bad for JT, he looks like he is stressed about this team.
There’s always next year…
Who knew that Justin fucking Holl was the lynchpin for our D. I still can’t understand why the fuck Brad would bring in a more expensive Klingberg over a quality cheap offensive D man like Gustaffson. Fucking braindead decisions by Brad, Shanny and management.
Leafs have 5 regulation. San Jose, arguably the worst team iced in the last two decades, has 4. Granted they have 2 more GP, but, yikes.
Treliving took a good Dubas team with flaws and made it into a mediocre team with flaws. Nothing more.
Get Bylsma
On the one hand it’s re-assuring that the coaching staff played Nylander 26 minutes last night because at least they’re recognizing he’s been far and away our best player this season and they aren’t gonna feed Matthews and Marner those minutes just because. On the other hand, I can’t help but wonder what is taking them so long to split Matthews and Marner. It didn’t work against Florida last year, and it’s not working now. We won against Tampa with the lines as Matthews-Nylander/ JT-Marner. Just make the damn switch and try it for a few games.
