Backström reminds me a lot of Mitch Marner. A playmaker that works hard on both ends of the ice, plays a major role on both powerplay and penalty kill while still, somehow being overshadowed by their linesmate (obviously Ovi for Backström and Matthews for Marner). Is that a valid comparison or am I dumb?

Truly increidble how it all unfolded! From the draft in 06 he was attached to ovi's hip in almost every game and then in 2018, even though they had allready beaten the penguins they had one more arch enemy to face, Fleury and in true story book fashion they succeded against him too!

Came here in the offseason in 2022 to cry a little bc I think his career is unfortunately pretty much over now after the hip operation and the team preparing to be without him for the regular season. Adding Strome pretty much solidifies the top 6 cuz idk if Backstrom could even be half of what he was after this recovery at his age And it makes no sense to pay a 3rd line center that much money.
I met Nick Backstrom out in public once and can say he is one of the nicest athletes you could hope to meet. A really great guy and incredible hockey player. All the best Nick
