  1. Ok I agree we need a trade to fix our D core. Here my thoughts even though Klingberg finally on LTIR we can go spend it now until you get a update how long he's out. We don't need to end up with another lupal seranio where players says he's healthy and team says no.

  2. Word on the street is that not only is Klingbergs' season in jeopardy but also his career might be in jeopardy as well.

  3. Reilly – Brodie
    Gio – Timmins
    McCabe – Lilijgren

Perhaps I listed our 2nd/3rd pairings out of order but every single one of those names on the 2nd/3rd pair will be getting heavily stretched defensively in the “big games”, and Reilly isn’t exactly built in the mould of a Alex Pietrangelo neither for a 1st line D so
it should be obvious to everyone the Leafs will need to upgrade at that position and the incumbant will need to quickly form some chemistry with his new partner asap..
It’s no wonder there could be a lot of truth to the Tanev/Zadorov rumours if they happen to be defence partners because I don’t know how else you reinforce the back end of this style of team

  4. They need to start playing a defensive structure. Regardless who they get. They are hopeless this year.

  5. I don't think the defense that started the year was the one that Treliving wanted to take into the playoffs. I think a lot of the players he wants are in their final year and he was hoping to get to the trade deadline and then fix the defense.

How did Klingberg get past his medical check? I am guessing they found the problem, knew it was a long term thing and moved on. I doubt there are many players who come through perfectly clean on their medical checks.

Are the Leafs gaming LTIR. The only player to suggest it was Lupul and he backed down at light speed when the League offered to let him do a league medical check instead of a Leafs one. Do teams play around with it a bit. I am sure they do. Is it only the Leafs? Hmm, let's ask the Tampa Bay Lightning that question.

  6. Andrew this is my trade proposal to Toronto tanev and zadorov 50 percent retained to Calgary abruzzesse lilejgren holmberg

  7. The Dubas Project was a HUGE failure & a balanced team approach makes 1 thousand perfect more sense than the "let's outscore the world" with 4 players. So so stupid. Trade Marner as he has worth & reduce the cap hit, get the pair from CGY for D & trade Samsonov (haha, for Campbell???) that would be funny, but might be the boost Campy needs to become a bonafide #1. Great assessment, Andrew!

  8. Klingberg was not a good signing in my opinion, everyone worries about offense but leafs should focus on getting better at defence, it really is poor, you are reduced to having 40 year old Gio playing way too many minutes, and Brody looks tired out already. Also your paying 5 players (4 of them forwards) half the cap to rack up points, and they are under performing except for Nylander, i do not see how any team could be expected to have success built like the leafs are.

  9. Keep talking about defense because thats what we need. I dont want to hear about another forward.

  10. No value for Klinberg, get rid of Brodie, and Robertson, only because Keefe is not smart enough to play him a second round draft choice, and get Zadorav and Tanav. The last time Brodie went in corner was March last year. Time for Marner Togo on third-fourth line for a few games

  11. They can’t really make a move until Klingberg decides his future. I imagine he will elect surgery but until then they have no flexibility.

  12. Marner and Nylander should be traded to upgrade their defense. Oh wait? Marner has a no trade clause. The legacy of the Dufas!

  13. i didnt know Klingberg had double hip surgery, now knowing that why the hell didnt he accept Dallas offer long term that alone screams STUPID cause now he aint playing and nobody next year will give him anything more than 1 million if he gets signed at all.

  14. Yes, Andrew, please get to the point … A trade apparently was discussed during the Sweden trip, then was to be talked more about after their return.
Question: How did Klingberg pass the physical prior to training camp?
Back to the same situation again , 5 no move or trade clauses.
2nd. Other than disrupting the present lineup, who or what do they have to offer?
Right now, Knies should be untouchable! Jarnkrok Gregor Domi the same!
Give up Mintton or Cowan big mistake .
No Brodie last year of his contract possible, Timmins ? Rielly, there is an option providing there is team.on his list .
    Bertuzzi right now, no ?
So Andrew, who do they trade or give up a future 1st round pick .
Reaves need him down the stretch.
    2nd Question.
If McDavid or Drisdelle was available would you trade Nylander ? Mathews ? Or Marner and Mathews for one or both possible Bouchard included

  15. First off, Klingberg sucks. Anyone that actually watched him play for more than 5mins the past two years would know that. Treliving signed him knowing all of this…and knowing also that if/when Klingberg predictably sucked crap that he'd be putting him on LTIR. This was obvious, because it is what the Leafs do when contracts don't go well for them…they raise their own cap limit to avoid the consequences of their own actions. Yeah it's cheating…and yeah it sucks. Doesn't bother me much though…because I know the Leafs are poorly constructed to win anything and managed by idiots…so they will go right on winning nothing.

Next year all three of the Leafs current LTIR scams come off their books and their cap will actually decline…even if the cap goes up by $4m as predicted. The Leafs currently have a cap of $100m because of their obvious cheating, but their cap will be nominally $87.5m and they'll have to build up their cap limit(by cheating) from scratch all over again. Either way, they'll be winning nothing because they're managed by buffoons.

The LTIR rules are completely broken. Did you know that when a team retains salary to move a player and the team the player is moved to then puts that player on LTIR the acquiring team gets 100% cap relief while the salary retaining team gets NOTHING? By cheating their way out of the Matt Murry deal, the Leafs also screwed over the Ottawa Senators who stupidly chose to retain salary on Murray to trade him to the cheaters…er the Leafs…who then swindled their way out of the consequences. Much lulz that this stuff is in the league rules.

  16. Might – lol – at this point they are headed for the bottom of the East unless they totally overhaul the D and the goaltending.

  17. The major problem with this team is the fact that there are three contracts north of ten million dollars. They will never be able to have a Stanley cup winning D core paying three players that much money. Period. One of them needs to go.

  18. I am hearing that not only may he be shut down for the season but he may never play professional hockey again…. I hope that is not the case because he was such an exciting player 2 seasons ago.

  19. There is a difference between playing badly and playing through pain. Let this kid (I'm way over 40 so I can call him that) try to get healthy because he has 50+ years ahead of him and he shouldn't spend them in pain to play hockey now.

  20. The issue I have with the Leafs d-core is the lack of physical play! Schenn should have had a contract period. He plays with heart. I remember when he was fighting guys in his first tenure as a youngster. Heart cannot be coached into a player. Next up are these nonsense M-NTC and full NTC contracts they are handing out like Halloween treats…stop over paying, stop treating players that have no proven track records like gold when the fact remains that even Gretzky, Selanne and Coffey were traded. Leafs management is a dismal failure. Klingberg and a late 30's Reaves were just bad judgement. Snot? Well in a perfect world ten years ago maybe.

  21. Chill and write this season off, Sign Willy to whatever can get him signed, Write off another season, Then Tavares doesn't resign unless he takes a pay cut or doesn't get an offer at all and the Leafs sign McDavid. The cap will be a lot higher and McDavid will be a free agent. Defense Defense is what the leafs will need to build through dangling easy cheap signings and getting them noticed. Trading up to get that perfect D-Core.
