A buddy of mine, Doug, was a Junior B goalie with the Dixie Bee Hives, about 1966. The Chicago Blacks were at the same arena Mississauga as the Bee Hives. Small goalies: Emile Francis. I remember seeing him on the bench as Rangers coach and couldn't imagine him being an NHL goalie. Also Chico Resch, Nucks GM Jim Rutherford and hall-of-famer Rogie Vachon.

Has a non leafs fan. In the negotiation with management. Who cares about the international value of Nylander. The main argument is agent has is the leafs stats column this year. The guy is leading the team in points.
If I were Nylander, I’d go to free agency. For people who says wait till the playoffs, I got word for you, his stock is only going up because he is the only player consistently performed for the Leafs in the playoffs last four years. Remember how Paul Maurice singled him out and praised his play last year?
He is the game breaker that many team needs who can create his own shot and create opportunities for his teammates. I am going to guess Pittsburg will be one of those teams come calling next July.
Columbus has been circling the drain with Jarmo and it’s too bad. Vegas has constructed a team over seasons with a consistent theme of players who as a group excel..a certain compete level in common.
With Columbus this is a market that could excel building an ensemble group…I see a fragmented approach here ..scouts come up with quality draft picks..then as they age they are traded away. Josh Anderson. Foligno. Bjorkstrand. At some point management needs a core identity.
The coaching presently not showing much resourcefulness . That’s a weak dimension to things.

Laine is not a good passer. He is a decent puck-handler, a great shooter, mediocre on defense and a terrible passer.
If you want to look at the Jackets big picture, which is the goal being a Stanley Cup, then the Jackets' have much bigger problems than Laine. It has to do with a franchise that lacks respect in the NHL world. That means, their own free agents leave. The best outside free agents don't choose the Jackets. And that adds up to a lack of talent on the ice.

Pascal Vincent is horrendous!! His defense system is horrendous!! His Power Play is Terrible?! Hus Pump and Dump ozone system is god awful!! Pascal's horrible line combo's and system have Laine and Guadreau playing the worst hockey of both of their careers!! On a team struggling to score goals he sends An over 40 Point Scoring Rookie from last year to the Minors in Kent Johnson😂😂 He's been playing games with David Jiricek too when he's obviously our 2nd best RD!!! How he's not been fired yet is crazy!! And Jarmo gave him 2 years 😂😂😂
Unfortunately, you are giving a false picture of what is happening with Laine in Columbus. As you describe it, he was put on the centre position because they don't have a 1C and were desperate for it to work with Laine. The outcome of this experiment, as you describe it, is that Laine was benched. Columbus, you say, have not put him in a place to succeed by putting him back on the wing.
Here is what really happened: The Blue Jackets don't have a bona fide 1C yet (they hope Fantilli will become one). Laine have wanted to try the centre position for a while. The coach thought that they had nothing to lose and tried it in the pre-season. It seemed to work and he started the season there. Then, against Calgary, he got hurt. He came back and was placed on the wing. He didn't look himself. You know, the around-a-point-per-game player that he has been for the last two years in Columbus. So they moved him back to the centre position to see if that would work. He still didn't look right. He probably came back too soon from the injury. So they sit him for a game for some rest and a mental reset.
It is unfortunate that you spend so much time talking about Columbus in this episode and yet provide such an uninformed view of what is going on. I usually like this podcast, but this was disappointing.
I think a big thing with this 4 team “world cup” that nobody is talking about is that if the NHL doesnt partner with the IIHF they can probably only field a competitive team from Canada, USA, Sweden and Finland (plus Russia if things were different)

Laine is a huge head case. All the talent in the world, but he isn't an elite personal manager.
