Oilers are not back until they get into wildcard spot. We have seen this before. 3 games win, 3 games lost. 97 is back to his usual self. Oilers, will have to see.
I think it's better to look at a 10 game sample, if they are like 8-2-0 after some more games played then we can talk. Right now they're 5-5-0 over their last 10 games and that's not enough to say "they're back".
Is this going to be the TSN news headline after game the Oilers win against a lower standings opponent? Should we hand them the Stanley Cup right now because they beat the Ducks? The Oilers are not going to get back to what they were last season with the team they have…the Oilers are in the position they are in because of bad offseason moves that made the team weaker. When I saw the offseason moves the Oilers made, I thought "wow, what are they thinking". Then I started to see people predicting them to win the Stanley Cup and I though how are these people so delusional? The Oilers were not a cup contender last year because they were too weak defensively and they got even weaker defensively after their offseason moves. Beating up on a team that has lost 6 in a row and isn't one of the better teams in the league does not make you good…being able to compete and win vs teams who are at the top of the standings, that is what makes you good. Would you praise a 12 year old for dominating a league of 6 year olds and then make claims he could play with 20 year olds?
I'm not saying there is no way for the Oilers to compete consistently with the best teams in the league, but I personally don't think they can. I think the Oilers are talented enough to compete with the best teams in the league, but I don't think the Oilers have a good enough understanding of the intangible aspects of the game of hockey to compete with the best teams consistently. The things that don't get recorded on the score sheet like lifting a stick in front of the net, deflecting a pass, simply getting in someone's way and making it so they are not able to shoot or pass the puck…these are things the Oilers just don't do…a lot of the Oilers goals against are passes to the front of their net where there are multiple Oilers around the guy from the other team and not 1 of them thinks to lift the opposing players stick to prevent him from being able to receive the pass.
Even when the Oilers were winning games last year, they were not beating teams like Vegas, Colorado, Dallas, Carolina, Boston and other top standings teams consistently, but they were beating up on lower standings teams…so by "are they back", do they mean are the Oilers back to losing to good teams, but beating up on lower standings teams instead of just losing to anyone…even if that is what they mean, beating up on 1 bad team and another meh team right after losing 3 games where they had their usual issues doesn't suggest the Oilers are "back".
I’m hoping that McD isn’t a slow season starter! Remember, he started very slow last season also. However…I usually don’t like to do this but I agree with Button.
Connor didn't "lose confidence". He had an oblique injury and was recovering. Woodcroft never said to Skinner, you're no longer our guy, nor did he say to Campbell, "Hey, you're our guy". If anything, Woodcroft has always favoured Skinner a bit because he coached him up from the AHL. He's always said that in the Western Conference, you need 2 goaltenders.

We will see after tonight if they are really back

wow, three-game win streaking, relax
Your moms back
wow they win a few games and now they are back?.. clam down
the Oilers are so back
They just played 2 teams that played like the oilers have this year.

Didn't take long another week like the last and the Oilers will be back as Cup favorite. Never seen so much BS from supposedly expert hockey analysts.
Skinner was not instrumental in the playoffs last year, he got pulled like 3 times, not acceptable in the playoffs
Nope
No goaltender and 2 players they suck
As a Oilers fan No. I'm happy that the Oilers are playing better but the roster is not constructed well enough to be a serious contender.

Still 5 wins away from being merely .500
Canadian sports media: "ArE tHeY bAcK?!"
They win 2 games and they’re back. 😳
Until they lose 4 more in a row. Haha
Say this when they don’t beat weak ass teams 😂
LOL, no, hell be leading the scoring in 3 to 4 games! Guarantee.
Dont think so, but all Oilers hope so. Go Oilers Go, lets beat Vegas tonite.
Back from totally sucking till still sucking

They beat 2 shitty teams like them and "they're back"? See what happens in next 7 games against playoff bound teams.
we're back baby!
If oilers can win another 18 games in a row , then they would be back. They still need a goalie .

Let's hope not! Their crash has been something you can't take your eyes off of! Enjoy the last NHL season everybody!
