The floor material you see between the ice and the basketball court is insulating tiles that keep the ice cold and protected while things are happening on top of it. I always thought when watching this video that they were bringing in little pieces of ice, but then realized they were actually removing a temporary floor over the ice.
I'm amazed at how flat and even the rink and court surfaces are when the teams are playing. I never guessed they were made out of hundreds of individual sections. I also thought the basketball court was permanent and they'd uh, put or flood the water/ice over it for hockey then melt it or something. Amazing!

Cleveland is like this too. I remember going to hockey games as a kid and staying to watch them prep for the Cavs.
Does anyone know what is between the court and the ice? What kind of material is that? Looking for answers for my own ice rink.
They put the ice together like a puzzle?
