He shouldn’t have been standing there

Curious to see if this warrants a suspension, especially as KAP is beginning to find his game.

Commentator seems to exaggerate the play a ton imo. Not sure why this is « Highly Illegal »

Listening to him say roll the clip I was expecting him to get absolutely demolished but he kind of just got skated into when his head down. Like it didn’t even look that much like a check.

I hope the guy is ok but I just didn’t see a whole lot there

I could only get the Predators stream to work for the 1st period. Their announcers were bitchy about it.

They talked non-stop about it for a good 2 minutes and completely blew off the play by play going on, made comments about how someone from Nashville needs to make Kaprizov pay for that hit, when he got out of the box they said something along the lines of « he’s back on the ice let’s see who will send him a message ». Then when there was that scrum in the crease the one guy made a comment about how some needs to « get a hold of Kaprizov in this situation ». Then the intermission that was the first thing their dude started whining about.

He had his elbow tucked and didn’t extend through upon contact. Other than Carrier having his head down (making himself vulnerable), that’s about as clean of a hit as Kaprizov could have made.

The only questionable part about this at all is the possession aspect since it doesn’t appear from this bad angle that he had the puck or was the one who dumped it out. It’s a judgement call since the puck was in close proximity, but not necessarily in possession, if that would be interference or if it was reasonable for Kaprizov to assume Carrier was making a play on the puck and eligible to be hit. Obviously they called the interference so I don’t see this rising beyond a fine, but even that is likely a stretch.

He hit him right in the head but does not look intentional. Bummer of a play. he should have been penalized for it but no way this gets a suspension if this league has taught me anything. 5k fine should be enough the only choice here

    Edited for misspelling

After seeing this, I went back and re-watched it. From the standard game angle, you can tell he is watching and trying to make a play on the puck until the last second, when he realizes he is going to collide or hit the boards, looks up and braces. Unfortunately, that last second is also when Carrier puts his head down. Probably would have been interference no matter what, but if Carrier stays upright, Kaprizov is just in his way, and the hit to the head doesn’t happen at all. The Nashville cut makes it look intentional.

carrier lowers his head at the last second when kaprizov has already committed to the hit. not the most intelligent hit to make but also not suspension worthy imo

Kap didn’t even put him in the boards, he was trying to play the puck and largely avoided putting him into the boards. Not his fault that Carrier is skating with his head down
