The way the deadline cap works is so stupid. Why are teams being punished for having guys go on the LTIR?

    Tl;dr

    1. Lavy looking like the right choice
    2. Lavy’s effect showing up in details like faceoffs, blocked shots, and giveaways
    3. Consistent forechecking and neutral zone trap leading to lowest GA/60 since 2015
    4. 5 on 5 still needs work
    5. PP1 as lethal as ever
    6. Better lately, but Mika’s slow start at even strength es no bueno for your 1C
    7. Wheels at 1RW ain’t it
    8. The seasons for Kakko and Laf are kinda the opposite of what a lot of folks expected
    9. Gus was a steal
    10. Signing Vin was the right call
    11. Trouba now looks super comfortable in NY
    12. Quicker is proving everyone wrong
    13. Chytil’s long-term health is a concern
    14. LTIR is making the cap space problem worse
    15. It makes sense to target a C who can also play RW
    16. In the meantime Vesey should move up
    17. Otter should stay in Hartford at least until after the holidays
    18. Panarin is team MVP so far
    19. Resiliency of this team reminiscent of the team that went to the ECF a couple years ago
    20. Rangers are legitimate Cup contenders

I really wish it was easy to understand how this cap space thing works with LTIR and why was it so easy for Tampa to manipulate it like they did….

I dont think we could have asked for a more perfect start to a season then whats transpired so far. This sub and everywhere online was so down and negative on this team. It
was actually shocking, the team even looking as rough as it did last year topped off at 107 points and finished 9th overall in the league. Did I expect the Rangers to start off this good? Hell no. But playoffs were 100% a no doubt in my mind.

    1) the team looks like they care and have an actual system. So that quiets the Lav was the wrong pick chatter for now. Thank god(and again I understand the negativity around it, it didnt seem inspiring at the time)

    2) Quick looked atrocious in preseason so I get it, but again no one can say one thing negative about him so far. Thank god

    3) Laf not looking like a bust thank god, yea he was brutal in preseason but people also put WAY too much into preseason games. (I do think preseason is more important for the goalies to show their game)

    4) Panarins hot start, because every post posted about him in the summer was “trade him” and other negative shit. He sucked in the playoffs. He deserved blame 1000%. Hes also one of the greatest Rangers FA signings ever. People saying “regular season doesnt matter” is wild to me. You need it to get to the playoffs….and no one out there replaces what Panarin brings to us. Plus by the time his contract ends hes only 34. Old yes, but falling off a cliff old? No.

Just rambling before my therapy session at 11. Thank you for your time

I’m happy to say I was as wrong about Panarin as I was right about Laf. Always believed in the kid, but I never thought Bread would evolve his game at this point in his career.

I’ll also eat some crow on Trocheck, but not the whole bird. I thought he was an expensive luxury 3C, but seeing how quickly our center depth dries up with a single injury, and especially considering Chytil’s injury history, he’s critical to the team at this point. His discipline is just non exisitant, and he’s careless with the puck. Frustrating, but the flip side is he’s one of the few players ALWAYS looking to make a play.

Goodrow has to go. I like him as a player and a 4th liner, but 3.6 for what he brings is an atrocious value, especially when we need that cap space for a top 6 RW.

The three most important players on a team are your 1C, 1D, and starting goalie. The fact that we’ve been this good with a Mika not playing up to his standard, Igor not playing up to his standard, and an injured Fox is an absolute testament to Panarin, Trouba, Quick, and Lavy.

Gallant is a hockey terrorist. If you give Lavy last years team, I think they steamroll the east.

I’m normally not an all-in kinda guy. But this is rapidly approaching all-in territory. I think we are in a position we can lose 2 first rounders between the need to pay younger guys soon long term in Laffy, Miller etc, second contracts to guys like Miller and Othmann and Gabe due here in 2024 or 2025.

If Calgary isn’t on Goodrows no trade list, I’m all in on Lindholm. He allows Chytl to rest. Maybe even for the year. He also can give us RW depth.

The fact Kakko could be back by January is crazy. I thought for sure his season was over.

  8. Things have been great but we need a scorer. We are getting contributions from all the lines but we still lack a RW scorer. We need to get someone who can score on 5-5. That has to be our priority.
