1. I feel like torts is finally where he’s meant to be in Philly, he can do his style and the fans will love it.

  2. He is not loved. Most players hate the guy. Not a winning coach. Classic band aid guy for any floundering organization. Record barely over .500 with years of coaching.

  3. The guy has a media responsibility cant just tell the reporters to not ask him something that is outstanding. Idiot

  4. The Leafs could really use him. I honestly believe he could get the leafs far in the playoffs.

  5. I had a coach just like Torts when I played Junior, I love that style of coaching. You may get ripped into if you dont listen or mess up, but those are the type of coached I would go through a wall for.

  6. As a die-hard Flyers fan (and I know this might be unpopular) but I hate this man so much. He's just such a dick and I feel like he favors certain players over others for no reason. Like how Laughton played 20 mins a game before this year still confuses me. He should be a bottom 6 forward not a guy on the 1st PP unit. Hell the fact that Laughton is the only player on this team with a letter is disgraceful and shows just how out of touch Torts is in my opinion. He has 3 natural leaders in Coots, Atkinson and TK and refuses to let them take a leadership role because of his hard on for Laughton. I think this team is playing well in spite of him. Not because of him.

  7. Torts is a legend. I happened to luck into being at the St. Louis jersey retirement and Torts had a short speech telling Marty's kids he was a pain in the ass to coach.

  8. Torts is one of those coach that can clean up the mess in the locker room and get players to re-focus on their jobs, he has been able to get the team overachieved when they have no business to be anywhere near the level of competition. However due to his personality that he has an expiration day which players will eventually get tired of him and then he has to leave. Then, whenever Torts left the team, they immediately got significantly worse. He is a good coach but he has rarely been a solution for team's long term successes.

  9. I was confused why phili would take him. I thought they wanted to rebuild. Torts ALWAYS gets more out of guys than anyone else. One of the only coaches who actually effects wins and losses so why a team built for the lottery would pick up a coach that will have them on the bubble confuses me

  10. Favorite Torts moment was the run to the 2004 Stanley Cup. Specifically giving Martin St Louis more ice time and St. Louis running with the ball.

  11. Ok, but torts is a fan favorite, not players. A lot of talented players flew out of Columbus because of him.

  12. torts will never be the best coach in the league… but he is always in the conversation no matter what team he is coaching bc he does this stuff and gets the most out of his guys… loved him in ny and think he is a legit leader no matter where he is coaching

  13. Clearly, Monsieur tortorelhas a lot more balls than many other coaches. When it comes to communicating with his players via their playing time… And I say good On him… They're making shit loads of money and should make every attempt to do with their coaches want.

  14. Torts is the backbone to the NHLs customary wtf footage, he lives for the crowd, you can see him just give his all every night, when things are down his temper is up, he balances the game like Thanos would, it isn't personal its just Torts.

  15. Most impactful coach in lightning history , led us to our first Stanley and humbled us when we won the presidents trophy and swept us with the jackets

  16. "He wasn't a healthy scratch"
I mean, I feel like I could stretch the definition to include a player is considered a healthy scratch only playing not even a minute.
I think John is the only coach in hockey that will get a 'yes sir' after benching a player.

  17. Torts has been great with the Flyers. He's the right guy at the right time. When you listen to him talk, you can tell he cares. The players have bought in too. Go Flyers.
