thats what we’ve been saying this whole time but Lou conditioned this fanbase to cut coaches 2 and a half periods into the season and now its ruined forever

Correct, but good luck convincing 75% of the fanbase that Schmid and VV (the latter of whom has been nothing short of abysmal) aren’t viable options for the future.
It may look like we give up a ton of high danger chances that the goalie has zero chance on, but with horrific positioning and mobility, every shot looks like it’s on a wide open net.

This is only taking one stat into consideration. Goaltending has been crap all around but it starts with our defensive system. How many high danger scoring chances are we allowing per game? Even looking at all available analytics for defense and goaltending it doesn’t take more than the eye test to see goaltending needs to make a few big saves but more imperative is that our defense needs to make better decisions and play tighter. We have the defensemen to do it too – and Luke and Nemec are the only exceptions that should be getting excused. I really think at this point it’s defensive coaching and deployment. We should not have a rookie learning to play NHL level defense next to Brendan Smith. In regards to Smith, I’m a fan of his energy and what he brings to the locker room but he should be what Jimmy Hayes was to us (RIP), a healthy scratch and locker room guy.
Anyway, I’m $4 a pound.

Yeah that stat in the penguins game basically showed the devs create as many chances as opponents but opposing goalies don’t stink
Gallium1005
Correct, and the defense seems bad *because* the goaltending is in the shitter
falaris
You are reading it correctly. Our goaltending is abysmal.
Some fans act like if we just never gave up a high-danger chance then we’d be fine, so it is mostly on the defense then, but… the other team ALWAYS gets some high-danger chances in any given game.
The difference is that our goaltending just isn’t good enough during those times. Certainly they have made some big saves this year, but they don’t make enough of them consistently.

Bad goaltending is impossible to overcome consistently in the NHL. It’s a real crisis for this season, an issue that must be addressed urgently

I mean it really shouldn’t be a news flash to anyone. We are right behind Edmonton for the worst goalie tandem
WontSwerve
Defense took a small step back which was unsurprising, but goaltending took a MASSIVE step back.
