Really hoping for a goalie with a pulse.
They lost so many prospects and they will need to use pics to get these guys. It’s gonna set this team back. Can’t trust gm he ruined team why sign Timo when we needed goalie and defense. Why did he sign Jonas abs Marino when they have no upside
I think gibson would be solid here. Its gotta take a toll getting 40 shots a night and playing constantly while the ducks were bad. His numbers are actually impressive to be better than our goalies while leading the league in losses
I think they should go after askarov he's young but super talented and really could be our goalie for the long run
The fact people still ask? Is it the defense or the goalies. ITS THE GOALTENDING. Like give me a break
Fitz has done a great job. How could he know Schmid and Vaneck would both be terrible this year. Gibson stats are not great prior to this year. Unfortunately the goalies have let the Devils down. Just play the goalies, get a goalie in the off season and use first round pick on a goalie.
I do think Gibson would be solid and there's a decent chance after suffering on the Ducks for years he'd be so excited to be on a playoff bound team that he starts posting Vezna #s.
I don't see either Vegas or Boston moving one of their goalies but I'd love to get any of Thompson/Hill or Swayman/Ulmark.
Lower cost options could be Lindgren from the Caps, Lyon/Reimer form Detroit, Stolarz from Florida or Montembeault/Allen from the Habs.
Crazy idea that wouldn't happen but Florida has Bob locked up, Spencer Knight was Jacks USDP goalie and had elite potential coming in. Knight did enter the players assistance program last year and isn't killing it in the AHL this year (9 games 5-4 record with a .891%) however goalies are voodoo, trading for him and giving him Jack to play behind maybe he regains his form and pans out?
A traffic cone might be more effective than Vitek at this point
We need an elite goalie, AND a defenseman like Tanev.
Tanev sounds a lot like John Marino when Marino is playing well
Both defensive and goaltending are at fault HOWEVER for me I lean toward the defensive is the worst of two evils. I say this based on the eye test and watching all the games. If I'm Fitzy I would use Hamilton's LTIR money to get 2 defensive players and force the goaltending to improve. The two people I would target would be Tanev and I would talk to Seattle and see what it would take to pry Jamie Oleksiak out of Seattle as there record is not very good and they are 11 points out of a Wild card spot. Why Oleksiak? Easy. I wanted Zadarov before he was traded to Vancouver because of his size, his hits and that he is the type of player that would protect our forwards…plus Zadarov has a little bit of offensive upside. Since is not on the market anymore, I found someone with a little less offensive upside, but who is as big and mean and would stabilize the backend. For those who aren't familiar with Oleksiak, he's 6'7" and 250 lbs. He's blocked 66 shots so far and if we were fortunate to get both he and Tanev IMHO those two along with Marino and Bahl would be enough to clamp down on the porous defensive lapses I see game in and game out.
If I were Fitzy and I were to go for a one stop shop kind of deal, I am absolutely doing this:
Devils Receive:
Gibson 50% Retained
Gudas 50% retained
Ducks Receive:
Vanecek
1st round pick (top 10 protected)
And then maybe still get Tanev in a deal that looks something like:
Devils Receive:
Tanev 50% Retained
Flames Receive:
2nd round pick
Either Bahl/Siegs
Also spot on and I noticed that too, I completely agree the team right now is a perfect mix of good and bad.
Devils could try to get Varlamov
Don't think another goalie would do shit. You won't find a rythim with this chaotic defence infront of you anyway.
Glad to find a good page to follow news about the Devils… but man am I sick of the NHL's constant push of online gambling. Every game, every blog, every channel that has anything to do with the NHL…. way too many gambling commercials and ads. Not a fan of that, wish the NHL could find some better sponsors! None the less, I'll keep watching.
The more that I hear about Walker from the Flyers, the more that I’m thinking a Carter Hart/Walker trade may work. We would keep Vanecek as our 1B, which is what he really is TBH, trade Mercer plus a prospect not named Casey or Lenni, plus a pick.
Devils should call up Erik Kallgren. He did really well for the leafs in a similar situation when leafs goaltending stumbled and I was surprisingly pleased by him.
John Gibson has helped lead New Jersey to ~10 Stanley Cups in my NHL 15 Franchise
I think a goalie coach change may make a difference rather than needing to trade the goalies themselves because they don't seem to learn or change anything.
