Finally some delicious fucking goaltending (and posts)

  2. xxfatpigxx

They don’t ask how they ask how many baybayyyyyyy. Schmid-O the Torpedo held down the fort and the Devils grinded out a win against a desperate Kraken squad.

Just in time for my install of Baldur’s Gate 3 on my Xbox to finish up and get started on another playthrough. Good start to my Friday 🤙

  3. TheRobberBar0n

I get that the philosophy is all out attack using breakout passes, but Jesus we could make so many safer choices up 1 with less than 5 minutes left.

  4. Kitaenyeah

Most undeserved win I’ve seen in a while, and this is not just the Devils.

Lucky us – Schmid bailed us out big time.

Grats Simon on your first! Another great night for him.

  5. DiscipleofGrohl

    Unbelievable composure by Schmid tonight.

  6. Chico-_-

no way around it, Devils played like ass tonight and got bailed out, but that was such a necessary win. Now the team can breathe easy knowing they can get saves when they need them and Akira Schmid is FUCKING BACK, HE’S BACK BOYS.

  7. Spoonbread

Their EN defense doesn’t make sense to me. Its obvious that they try really hard to do the ‘right’ thing and play it safe even when they have the best faceoff man in the league that can negate icings if they wanted to take literally any shots at the empty net ever.

  8. walked_past

Nothing new, the team is still playing poorly. Fire Lindy.

  9. Kornja81

Feels weird having a goalie steal a game….. but damn does it feel good

  10. Got incredibly lucky to come away with two points but hey, we’ll take it. Someone better be buying Schmid a handjob or a McChicken or something. Important 2 points, let’s sweep this fucking road trip please.

  11. NJDevils30

Schmid saved 2.22 goals above expected

Ignore the dumb back to back where he played both games and got destroyed in game 2 and his goals saved above expected is positive

    100% the starter

  12. TheNightRain68

Just got out of that one. Offense was asleep majority of the game but our defense made some key plays and Schmid is the man. He’s the goalie going foward (except for back to backs). Rocking a cool .974 SV%. On to Calgary.

  13. nostradamefrus

    THAT’S A FUGGIN DUB Y’ALL

Offense didn’t come to play and there’s still possession and passing issues, but defense showed up for once

    SCHMID IS HIM

SIMON NEMEC IS A NEW JERSEY DEVIL

    FRIENDSHIP CONTINUES WITH POST

*OH BOY CANG WHAT A GAME*

  14. tECHOknology

It wasn’t pretty in the 3rd at all, but so great to see Schmid be who they needed tonight!! We will take it and learn from it hopefully, every team has a bailed out win now and then, some of the 13 game streak last year even were games like that. Hockey being hockey.

  15. nuremberp

Schmid The Kid was Locked The Fuck In tonight

  16. gothenburgpig

So what are everyone’s complaints tonight? We could win the Cup and people would be complaining that it shouldn’t have taken six or seven games.

  17. NJDevils30

First time all season they only gave up 1 goal

  18. BobaFett313

    .920 SV% for Schmid last 5 games, yeah I’m thinking he’s back

  19. specifichero101

I’m over expecting flawless victories. I just want to see the wins continue to pile up. Whatever it takes.

  20. Solid game until the third. The second we had some lapses in possession too, but it wasn’t till halfway through the third that we started giving up really juicy chances. Nice game Akira, nice game defense, they were shooting eveything, but aside from their PPs we didn’t give them too much time.

  21. SmokeyMiata

I think Jack needs to learn to be more composed with the puck. He loses it a lot and a few times in dangerous spots. I think really it’s something with age and maturity he will improve on.

  22. mikefred2014

Some people were upset about this win, but even though we struggled I actually felt much better after this game compared to the last few.

    1. Schmid played great. Yes we got a lot of crossbar luck, but goaltending helped bail us out.

    2. I felt that we did better limiting high danger chances, or at least they were limited compared to most of the games this season.

    3. I felt we were better transitioning out of our own zone. It wasn’t perfect, we had a couple notable issues in our zone, but I felt we did better chipping out using the glass.

Overall I’d say it’s good we found a way to win with the defense, and let up less than 2 for the first time this season.

  23. heheyousaidduty

Yeah, I think we gotta ride Schmidt as the starter. VV can play second game of a back to back, or in the less important games. But if a playoff series were to start tomorrow I’d want Akira in net based on performance this year.

  24. chefboleson

what a game for the D and goaltending to finally be clutch and be the good this time around . things started getting ridiculous towards the end but for the most part good prevention of high danger opportunities, siegs looked like his true self, nemec continues to amaze & obviously lights out akira game . that’s what we needed

  25. MartysBetter29

God bless all you sickos. Lets go Devils.

  26. Yakitack

Awful game but great win. Big props to Schmid for that performance. Looked like shades of what we saw in R1 last year.

The Swiss lads look really rough. Nico and Timo are likely both in a state where they shouldn’t be playing. Nico is just tossing the puck away softly before he can even look up. Turning the puck over everywhere. Timo, if he’s as shook up as he looks, is at least avoiding too much contact so that’s good. But yikes they treated the puck like a grenade tonight. Siegs has been in a slump this season and tonight was about the same, though he did have a few good plays around the net.

Bit of an adrenaline dump after the Hughes bowl for 43 and 86 I’d imagine, both of them had underwhelming games and turned the puck over a ton. Credit to Seattle for playing a really solid structured game and always having support when our skilled players skated at them. Only Bratt really got the better of anyone tonight.

Something must be wrong in the world’s timeline because Bjorkstrand was definitely supposed to score on his chance in the 3rd.

I guess aside from Schmid, Miller had a solid game – cleared away a lot of rebounds and played a heavy game between the hashmarks. Bratt was also good, not just for his chances but he also seized temporary control back a few times just by moving his damn legs on a zone exit instead of just punting.

  27. LaHondaSkyline

Glass half full: Devils got the 2 points. Schmid was amazing.

Glass half empty: Devils skaters played on of their worst games of the season. Outshot 17-37. PP was bad. 5v5 was bad. D was bad. Meier look totally lost.

  28. gothenburgpig

The Islanders are in a playoff spot and they have three more losses than wins

  29. gleeson630

When I say this remember I haven’t been hating on the goalies. Soo I’ll say it…Half of goaltending is luck and stat watching. I don’t even consider this a giant monumental game by Schmid. I also don’t consider some of the bad games by Schmid nightmares. Schmid will have some good games just by the puck hitting him. He’ll make a lot of easy saves. It’s working lately but idk if he’s the runaway starter just bc V is in the stinker. It’s really just be based on luck and whatever NJD nonsense goes on the ice. Today there were 4 posts.

It’s nice to win and stay climbing the standings more than anything. As long we win it’s ok. But that was not encouraging. We need more. Timo needs to get healthy and prove himself. This team also needs a heartbeat. Last year was our learning year in the playoffs (even Luke got in) and I don’t want another one if we make it.

    **T H A N K F U C K:**

    * First game we only let in one goal against.
    * First game we won by only scoring two goals.
    * A game where we needed to rely on our defense and our goalie for all of the third period to provide us a win.
    * AND THEY DELIVERED. THEY FUCKING DELIVERED.
    * We withstood a Kraken team that kept on attacking and attacking and attacking and if this game had gone like games before it, Kraken would not only have tied it up but gotten the game winner as well, BUT THEY DIDN’T AND THATS WHAT MATTERS.
    * Ugly fucking win. BUT WE TAKE THOSE.
    * Hey, would you look at that, when you don’t play Akria back to back he can save goals! Lindy, fucking use your brain. Fucks sake.
    * I will say still feeling a type of way about all the rebounds and non covered pucks post saves, but really fucking commendable performance by Akira Schmid tonight. Bravo!
    * Timo Meier is playing hurt. I refuse to believe that this is the Timo we saw before he got injured this season. He should take the time he needs to be back at one hundred percent. He’s a liability out there right now. And frankly its a disserve to his lineys, Holtzy and Merce, and a disservice to the team as a whole.
    * Every time Timo was on the ice, I was fucking terrified. Thats not fucking good, folks.
    * NEMO FIRST GOAL NEMO FIRST GOAL NEMO FIRST GOAL.
    * That kid is going to be so fucking special. He already is so fucking special.
    * Fourth line had a helluva game.
    * We don’t need crazy offensive explosions to win and close out hockey games. And the fact that we pulled this off with how Seattle were playing in the third. I don’t care how fucking heart attack inducing that was, this is an important win.
    * Back to back coming up next in Alberta. Lindy needs to make smart decisions here about our goalies. I’m leaning towards V against the Flames and Akira against the Oilers…

So fucking happy past me took tomorrow off work!

  31. kyletres

I feel like without looking at stats, the defensive game was good. Seattle fired a ton of low quality shots on net and they did a good job cleaning up rebounds and covering guys on second chances. Other than bahl falling and that 2-1 short handed attempt, most of the shots were contained. They didn’t need to win 5-1 and I’m actually happy to see them win one of these close, tough games on the road like this.

Schmid didn’t need to stand on his head, but he made some key saves and it’s nice to get that. Hopefully he can put together more games like this

I don’t think you can look at the shots and say they played poorly. They led the whole way and held it down after that. I’m happier about this win then the one Tuesday in all honesty

Edit: didn’t lead the whole way but most of the game

  32. Obviously sample size is small and I’m majorly jumping the gun here, but Nemo looks elite out there. Every game so far he’s made at least a single play that’s blown me away. Luke looks great out there, definite top pair material, but Nemo actually looks elite.

  33. -PoeticJustice-

They don’t ask how, they ask how many

  34. Zestyclose_Estate248

I usually don’t like those on the bench interviews with the coaches but Lindy’s was kinda endearing today.

  35. Armageddon24

Watched the recap – a few defensive lapses but it seemed more like our play last year in stopping a lot of dangerous zone entries. Good offensive pressure even without a ton of shots. Akira is our starter no doubt. Nemec needs to be on the team permanently. Nico is me hero

  36. EmuQuirky8841

how tf did so many people stay up to watch this last night
