The benefit of having been GM and President of a team like Rutherford has and coaching some of those guys like Tocchet has is that you know who the character guys are who can help a team win games and so far, it's worked out. If we'd gotten Kyle Dumas and he started bringing in ex-Leafs, then I'd be worried, but even the ex-Pens that don't have Cup rings played with future hall of famers and obviously Rutherford and Co think they've learned something from that experience and so far, it's paying off. Both Demko and DeSmith have been off of late, but this is one hell of a comeback for Casey. Sometimes, you're going to be flat from puck drop and you need your goalie to make saves while you get your legs back. Even Vegas will have games where they're not fantastic right out of the gate. Casey DeSmith was a wall for the first 20 minutes and the rest of the team were able to find their game it certainly helped getting the early goal. The guys are protecting their goalie quite a bit better this year and even though they've been a 500 team lately, they haven't had a bad losing streak yet this year. That's going to be key as the season goes along. Avoiding ruining that incredible start they went on. Zadorov looks to be fitting well and he adds an element of grit and meanness that this team was somewhat lacking. As much as I love some of the nice guys that have come through here and they're easy to cheer for, if 1994 taught us anything, it's guys who are willing to be complete menaces and assholes on the ice (without getting caught) who win championships. They'll shake your hand…after they've beaten you on the scoreboard.
