Oh well. Would have been nice for cheap, but coming off an injury like his I wouldn’t be willing to make moves to make space for him. Hopefully he does well wherever he goes.

I for one am glad we aren’t getting into an apparent bidding war for Bear
mephnick
I think Bear is exactly what we need but not for what he’s apparently asking
Oh well, get that bag buddy
BrokenArmsFrigidMom
That sucks. I sort of had him pencilled in as a mid season addition, but if he has better offers on the table then we move on.
stickinrink
The Canucks had a chance before the multi-year offer(s) rolled in.
He could have valued re-signing with the Canucks coming off an injury where he is familiar with the team and the system. That’s his best opportunity to succeed on a one-year deal and turn that into a multi-year deal with a higher AAV in free agency with the Canucks or another team.

Sucks but I wouldn’t wanna toss him term so quickly either.
To the trade market Allvin goes I guess. Wonder who is possible. Adam Larsson would be a dream for our top 4.

According to Friedman and Dhaliwal, Washington are the front runners and they’re apparently willing to offer term.
Yeah I never thought he was that great of a fit. Personally would have preferred Burroughs over him anyways.

Bear seemed so loyal to the Canucks all year, but you gotta think part of this is Bear seeing a defence core that could have him sitting in the press box pretty quick. This isn’t last years Canucks D.

Soon as he started asking for term I’m glad we were out

Good, time to move on.
electricnux
He had a baby earlier this year so I understand him looking for term and some stability for his family. I’m glad it’s Washington and not the Alberta teams or Leafs lol

I like Bear well enough but he’s not the guy to get into a bidding war for. I really really like how this front office has managed to keep themselves out of trouble by either trading early or dealing with free agents early to avoid this kind of thing.
Happy for Ethan though, he’s got a great story and hopefully he gets his bag somewhere else.
Scipio_Nullbuilt
He’s asking for his bag after a big surgery. I like the player, I like not signing him right now.

This makes me so sad.
Bear was such a great piece in Vancouver for our large Indigenous community. You see so many Bear jerseys at games, given his short stint with the team. As an Indigenous person, I took a lot of pride in wearing his jersey at games (I also own his Oilers & Hurricanes jerseys, and will buy his new jersey – wherever he ends up).
I hope he finds success wherever he does end up, and I do hope he ends up in a city with an Indigenous population that can be inspired by him. He’s a really great guy.

I had this crazy random dream that Bear was looking for 8 years 200M contract.

Thank god we can stop hearing about this player.

We don’t know what bear’s final price is yet but D is becoming the most sought after position (especially RD).
We were extremely lucky with soucy but we will have a lot of holes to fill next year and you can’t win every trade or every signing. Sometimes you have to overpay to fill the gap.
If we take going too cheap too far then we will end up with a lot of cap space but massive holes on D.
BrodyCanuck
Not a bad player by any means, but not a player worth bidding for
SMA2343
Washington is offering term. We can’t compete with that. He does need to think of his family first and if it’ll be like 4 years in DC, then good for him and hopefully he can get his bag
ProfitMuhammad
Short sighted IMO on Bears part. Had the chance to play with Hughes on what could be a decent playoff run. Signing term now after being a depth defenseman dumped for a 5th rounder and a 6 month rehab? Good luck.
