  1. I was at this game… I was about 12 at the time. I remember Gretzky's last-second goal in the first period, Palmateer's close shave early on, and the mice. I thought that the Gardens employees were kind of rough with them! I was sitting in the reds directly behind where Gretzky was when he assisted on the goal early in the second period. Must say that Wayne got some phantom assists in this game, watching it all these years later. I also saw Gordie Howe play in the Gardens that season, for the last time.

  2. After this game Harold Ballard famously said "I'd trade my whole team for Wayne, and throw Newmarket in there too! I've got nobody capable of playing with him anyway!"

  3. Its all rigged. Someone could have "Gary Suter"ed Wayne in this game and his career is over. And the dreadful goaltending? I think they got bonuses for letting in goals.

Just like Montreal couldn't figure out that Denis Savard was better than Wickenheiser. Another rigged situation.

Summit Series in 72 was rigged too. Why do you think Bobby Orr was kicked out of hockey after retirement? Wouldn't play nice with all the fraud.

Have fun with fake competition people.

  4. Don Ashby met a curious end. I don't why he ended up in the minors with Wichita before his fatal car crash. He put up really good numbers with Wayne. Could have been the Tikannen left winger but some untold story there.

  5. A shame that ESPN Classic lost the rights to these so they can't play them anymore. Thanks for recording these!
