Armstrong should have been fired for signing kyrou to and 8 year 8 mil a year contract. Wtf was he thinking
Two comments:
1) As a long islander the IBS Arena has created a permanent traffic jam all around that arena. It doesnt matter if its in use that day or not, unless its the middle of the night you will stop driving there. I hate that arena.
2) As a Yotes fan a small sick part of me wants the Caps arena to go to a public vote and I want them to turn it down lol sorry
Moving from a blue territory to a red state. Just like the Bears trying to get out of Chicago.
I think it's too late for the all-star game to redeem itself.
You can just call him Mike 😂
Sucks to hear about Connor, hope he has a speedy recovery!!
Strome should have been suspended for 6-8 weeks
By moving the Capitals arena, the entire fanbase in Maryland gets cut out. Huge shame how the ownership group has treated them with MD residents. For those not in the know, there is only one highway across the river in DC and it usually takes 40 or so minutes to cross. That plus the region of the country with the worst traffic just makes it more easy for that part of the market to head north to Philly or Pitt
Does Leonsis not remember part of the reason why the Capitals (& Bullets) moved to downtown DC in the first place? When they played at USAir Arena in Landover, MD, it wasn't easily accessible by a large swath of fans in DC and Virginia. The arena location now is perfect, as it sits on a metro station, much like Madison Square Garden (Rangers) and TD Garden (Bruins), and is more easily accessible by most fans across DC, Maryland and Virginia.
Seems so unexcited about a pretty eventful newsday 😂
The only thing that was cool about the skills competition was that the teams were their reverse retro that looked freakin amazing. Same thing with the All-Star game only thing good about it were the jerseys.
Caps went from 10 mins from where i grew up to another state. Yikes.
All the DC teams should be in DC. Point blank. And moving makes no sense to beginning with
Please create a new video of coaches on the hot seat (each time a firing happens). Then create a video looking at the pool of possible coaching candidates ready for hire, along with inactive coaches. No need to include Babcock.
All for the new arena. Fact is, Cap One has needed to be replaced for a while, but ownership hasn't been able to get a deal out of the city council. This is the best proposal they've gotten, and all DC can offer is renovations to an outdated building.
I also had never heard of a "coaching advisor" before, until last week when Jacques Martin was hired by Ottawa.
Blues need a rebuild. They're not good enough to beat the Stars or Avs right now.
City council is not the difficult part, it is the state legislature that will likely be the problem. Oddly, where it is being built was officially part of DC until 1847. I don't really care much either way, it will be easier for me to get to games, but not enough to really matter. If the team will be healthier financially by moving I am all for it.
Potomac yards is 1.3 miles away from my house and I don’t mind this
I don't get the majority of the backlash:
-Yes traffic will suck, but it's not like it didn't before
– Capital One Arena is far from an ideal home for an NHL team, it's outdated with its facilities and was poorly shoehorned into a location that made it almost impossible to drive to… if you can't use the metro you're done
…and at the end of the day I don't think that a public vote will be able to stop it since it sounds like Leonsis is just going to be the owner of the land
LA Kings hired Bernie Nicholls for basically the same role in 2012.
I wonder if Bolton hates Copiers as much as Michael Bolton ?
The caps moving to North Northern Virginia, yeah that would def not go over well.
>richest area in the usa
>prolly doing this to deal with lower taxes compared to DC or Maryland
>most expensive area to live in the state
As a resident Virginian, they'd prolly want the state to chip in too, and yeah I'd def not support that at all.
As someone who watched Zboril play for the Saint John Sea Dogs, it sucks that he's never broke through.
For the Caps the other big transportation issue is the Metro. Currently thousands of fans take all Metro lines to Metro Center or Gallery Place/Chinatown. Metro is still an option for Potomac Yard, but it's only one line. That means all of the Metro-traveling fans are going to feel WAY more packed in (they already are at peak game times). This and the longer ride will lead to more people driving and way more traffic. Devaluing public transportation is backwards generally and the impact will be felt with this if it goes through. Wish Leonsis would invest in the city instead of trying to add more to his billions.
As a Caps fan in MD, I will not be making the effort to go to games in VA.
Who in their right mind drives in downtown DC? You guys are nuts if you're driving to Capital One. Just take metro
Yeah, I would really enjoy an already rich millionaire win more money in a few hours than I will probably make in my lifetime. 🙃
instead of winning 1M, they should get to choose a charity to give 1M to.
“That’s the guys from office space.” Made me spit take
6 miles from the Verizon Center is outside of DC. One of the main problems with the old location is transit schedules. There has always been a concern that overtime playoff games that run multiple periods may finish after the DC Subway shuts down. Its also very very difficult to park in downtown DC and VERY EXPENSIVE! Let the Wizards have the Verizon Center, get moving to Virginia!
The moving of the Caps may "only be 6 miles" however, coming from Baltimore and fighting traffic for 1 1/2 hours, you may be adding another hour drive time with the excess traffic. Not worth it. When we can see the Hershey Bears in 1 1/2 hours and it's a lot cheaper. I love my caps but I'll watch them from home.
They'll need a new name now
Boulton was trying to impress Dale Hunter???
To reiterate, I wish Strome the worst puck luck ever. Of all time
Caps doesn't need a new stadium.
I don't know much about the situation but I'm reading in the comments why it's such a bad idea to move. So why are they moving? And why to an area where people are complaining about. What's the attraction to the new area for the owners? Trying to understand something I just heard about. Hockey fan.
I live in Alexandria, VA. This arena will have trouble, as this was the an old relocation site of the Washington NFL team back in 1992. Traffic will be even worst as only one road in and out of the area (US 1). Metro will be the Metro. I still want the arena at this location.
The new arena for Caps and Wizards are possibly a terrible move.
So goalies are going to compete in the hardest shot and fastest skater, or do they not even count?
As a DC native the arena change is absolutely horrible. Not only is the traffic in the area is bad but just the idea of moving Washington sports to Not Washington is trash. How they think moving the arena to a random metro area that makes it even harder for MD and DC residence to get to games is going to make them money. The prices in the stadium will be through the roof with VA pricing let alone the ticket cost.
Cap One Arena is in such a good spot not only for the team identity but for the fans too. Its looking like Washington Capitals as we know it will probably fold when Ovi's era ends.
