  1. Great game indeed!! boys all looked sharp. it was a shame about brown's goal being called back though. he had to feel a bit hit from that. Also, how about mcdavid and all his hits. and nurse and his assist for air mail on the devils player. that was a hard hit.

  2. Long post follows with base game statistics including some for the New Jersey Devils. Read, don't read, up to you. These are BASE stats not detailed ones provided to give a foundation (takes 3 sites to do it). My comments and observations at the end.

An afternoon matinee game (2 PM start) on a Sunday. They're giving Stu a break and putting Pickard in. Brown seem to get a goal (his first at 4:32) but it got called back for Goalie Interference. First goal comes near the end of the 1st period by Ryan (3rd of the season) assists to Gagner and Kulak. Yes the FOURTH line scored (DEPTH SCORING, it's a good thing). They were on the ice with the first line of NJ and still did it. Great job boys.

Second Period, Oilers get a PP and BOOM, Nuge to Leon to Bouch (his 8th of the season) for the Goal (a 99.4 mph Bouch Bomb). Oilers up 2-0. This is almost 3/4 of the wya through the second period. Anyone still want to complain about the Bouch contract? His D has mostly improved (far fewer deer in the headlights I'll be an observing D man who watches the play rather than actually doing anything moments). Late hooking penalty in the period by Ekholm so NJ on the PP. They close out the period but there is still 43 seconds on the penalty to start the 3rd. So far Oilers PK is running 100% (and PP 1/3rd).

Third Period, the boys kill the penalty. This was fun, so many chances. Hamblin really needed to bury the one. Oilers score McDavid (nine game point streak). Hyman worked his butt off on this one. Kane and Hyman with the assists. Jesper Bratt breaks the Pickard chance at the shutout 30 seconds after the McDavid goal almost 5 minutes into the period assists to Hischier and Palat. Pickard has made several really really good saves this game. Brown gets a tripping penalty. Penalty killed, PK 100%. With just over 10 minutes to play the Oilers are loosing a fair bit in the circle (28 Devils, 20 Oilers). Schmid made a TON of saves around this point in the game. With 5:45 left in the game NJ is shooting a lot more (and still ahead in faceoffs. NJ with 25 shots and 30 faceoff wins vs Oilers 26 shots and 23 faceoff wins. Oilers with a lot more blocks (19 vs 11 for NJ). Oilers also have more hits (18 vs 8 for NJ). Schmid pulled with 4:05 left. Oilers with an empty netter at 16:52 by Kane assist to McDavid. Schmid back on the ice. Hamblin made a great pass to Gagner but Schmid makes the save. By the end of the game the Oilers won a lot more faceoffs to nearly match NJ (NJ had 31, Oilers 30). The doubled NJ on blocks (NJ 11, Oilers 22) and more than doubled on hits (NJ 8, Oilers 19) plus the PK at 100% (on 4 penalties) and the PP running 1/3. Pickard earned the #2 spot. Keep Campbell in the Bake. Oilers now on a 7 game win streak. Take care all.

  3. Oiler fans are being treated to a well coached, disciplined team. They'll go far with this style of play.

  4. Is the ice on Rogers Place bad, or Hughes should join the US diving team for the next Olympics.

  5. What a wicked awesome game right from Pickard on out. Too bad Brown's goal was called back. Can't wait until Tuesday for the Hawks.

  6. Thanks for the update. I'm Happy for Picard hope he continues playing well when called upon. After the Oilers game I started watching the Caps and Blackhawks game. This game is alot slower pace then the Oilers vs Devil's game.

  7. I was wrong about starting Skinner tonight, Picard was fantastic! GG great win! Would be a great game to watch Connor and Connor

  8. Played excellent defense. No easy shots or chances given up. No shooting gallery with our goalie being the target. Seemed like I was watching a different team. Have to play like that in the playoffs. Still need to add though. Defense for sure. Goaltending too. Another forward would also be nice. Add some toughness there. Salary cap issue will obviously need to be figured out. New Jersey has an exciting young team. Hughes family has some excellent hockey genes. I see them as being faster than the Oilers. Could we beat them in a seven-game series playing for the ultimate prize if it came to that? Maybe, maybe not. So, let's tweak the roster some more. And, there lurks Vancouver and another Hughes brother who could possibly win the Norris. We'll have to go through them.
