Everything I used to read and hear pointed towards Melnyk’s frugality and penny pinching for the Sens poor performance but now that he’s gone and there’s a new regime that crutch has become moot!

1. Pay your players way too much for individual accomplishments without winning(or defensive play in most cases)
2. Hire a new coach before you even fire his predecessor.

I think they were opposed to doing this, so the timing is more based on the especially poor quality of play over the last few games. The wheels really came off the wagon on this road trip.

Not bashing on Jaques Martin, but I am surprised they didn't flip the idea and have Daniel Alfredsson head coach. But that's more likely because Martin has decades of experience in back bench rolls in different levels and Alfie is comparably green at coach. But I'm also wondering if Daniel is going to be mentored and groomed to become the head coach if not late in the season or for next year's run.

Sens are a better than their record shows. They have the talent so it's got to be the system isn't working. they should be in the hunt for a wild card, not where they are right now. This is coming from a leafs fan.

Many Senator fans knew this was a make or break road trip for DJ, and for the team to fall as flat as they did the first three games, it pretty much forced Staois's hand to replace DJ.
I am excited to see if Martin can give this team some structure. He's defensive minded, and doesn't cater to star players. One of things that got him fired the first time around was scratching a 20 year old Jason Spezza in the playoffs because he wasn't defensively reliable. It will be interesting to see how he treats players like Batherson and Stutzle as intern
