Just watched the documentary on Prime Video about Harold. Shannon's video is pretty thorough but I'm hoping he'll watch and review the documentary film as it does a 90 minute much deeper dive into Harold, the Leafs, and the Curse.
Goes into the family a lot more but Harold is shown saying the family wouldn't be eating out of garbage cans.
Eventually the team and building are sold any the millions went mostly to charity.

Ballard was told by the NHL to put the players names on the back of the jerseys but Ballard didn't want to as he thought it would mean fans wouldn't buy programs so Ballard had the names put on the jerseys in the same colour as the sweaters so no one could read them. What a CLOWN!!!

Ballard is like a cartoon capitalist villain. You can tell the moment he takes over the team just by looking at the jerseys. They go from a Canadian maple leaf to an 11 pointed abstraction of the leaf, likely cause its cheaper to make. They take the gorgeous striping and turn it into one big ugly bar because its cheaper to make. The bare minimum to prevent the jerseys from being nothing more than white or blue with a leaf on it is added. And other than getting rid of tiedowns and having to add names nothing changes. 20 years of the exact same uniform. Not even a minor change.
Back here after the leafs finally make it to the second round. I'm sure Ballard is screaming in hell

Great episode! Ballard was a piece of work. A carnival barker that just happened to own the Maple Leaf's. It's a shame what he did to that franchise. Please do another episode on him! I could listen to "Ballard was a jackass" stories all day. The only other sports owner that I can think of that was near his level of "Cheap Bastard" was Charles Finley on Oakland

Younger generations do not realize how lucky they are they didn’t live thru the Ballard era. Such a bad person. Maybe was a successful business person but everyone hated him and he is not spoken if fondly by anyone. Leafs were like 1-2 players away from winning a cup in later 70’s but then Ballard destroyed the team.
