IF the surgery is successful, we do NOT know if it is or isn't yet, then he'll be just fine. Only 35 years old and should have a few good years left in him. He was worth taking a chance on for the Red Wings. So far Yzerman has pulled the right string again. Having watched every game he's played with Detroit he seems to be getting stronger on his skates and more comfortable with his teammates. Maybe Kane can add enough to get Detroit into a wildcard slot. That's all Red Wing fans are looking for from the Patrick Kane signing. Anything more is a bonus!

The Wings exchanged Blashill for LaLonde and basically got the same guy. Players were upgraded, including Kane, a low-risk pickup. Better players, better record, in spite of mediocre coaching. Unfortunately, they still play college style, failed home run pass attempts resulting in turnovers or forwards standing still at the far blue line, facing the wrong way when they do receive a pass, resulting in turnovers. Poor passes occur when you are too spread out and don't stay together as a unit. They don't support the D in their own end, play soft in front of their own net, with lazy, spectator forwards on the backcheck. D rarely stand up at their own blueline, because no one is coming back to cover if they get burned, resulting in easy entrance for the opposition, resulting in easy goals. Lots of goalies, none are consistently good. Still, they could make the playoffs, Kane can't hurt their chances.
I argued with Rangers fans that despite being injured, dude posted 6points in the Devils series. They need a RW and Kane was a good fit. Unfortunately the cap situation is as it is.

As a wings fan, ive been extremely impressed with Kane overall. His hands are incredible and his decision making with the puck is second to none. Disappointed the Wings have dipped since he's been in the lineup, but thats not on Kane, he's surpassed expectations.

He makes me think of another Detroiter, Pavel Datsyuk. He'll slow down as he gets older, but he has so many other assets to his game that he should continue to be productive in his late 30s, if he stays healthy. Who doubts that Datsyuk could still be a useful player in the NHL now if he had continued to play?
