Trade him. His value is at its highest. And he’s not even worth the amount of money he turned down earlier this season already.

  2. Replacing someone on D who skates at a top level and eats up minutes is extremely hard. I feel like the forwards are much easier to replace.

  3. I’d be fine if they resign him… But also I’d be fine with them trading him. He’s the only UFA I’m fine either way. Sell the test though.

He will probably be traded. I wouldn’t be mad if he stayed but defensemen seem to be in very high demand and Hanifin is the best that could be available by quite a margin. If he’s willing to extend then I could see a lot of teams having interest in what he provides

  5. Top level defenseman. He’s improved so much with his time here in Calgary. Just keeps getting better. I say resign him. He’s everything we wanted out of Brodie x 100.

  6. I think his value is CRAZY high right now especially if we retain. Doing so would make him an option for almost every team in the league if we took back a contract.

I would trade him but tell him we will have “X” contract waiting for him in the summer if he wants to circle back. I would also have conditional picks in place to capitalize on if the team we trade him to signs him.

Dream situation is we do another sign and trade to a team like Arizona and end up with a blue chip prospect and a few sexy picks.

I’m on team Trade. This team should be looking to the future if it’s serious about winning.

  8. We can be happy with either. It all depends what offers we get and what contract he’s willing to take to stay.

I think they should re-sign him instead of resigning him

  10. If the plan is to be good in a few years trade him for a first rounder +. His contract talk earlier this season was 7.5/8 years which seems high for a second pairing d man

As shitty as he looked last year is crazy that his advanced numbers are even worse

I don’t see why we shouldn’t. Him Weegs and Ras should be our core D for the foreseeable future. I know everyone loves Tanev but he’s a lot older and we could still get decent return.

Keep him if he wanrs to stay AND if we trade Lindholm and Tanev. Otherwise trade him.

Trade. Great player, not worth the number he was offered. Plus pretty much the entire defensive prospect pool the Flames have are LHD.

Unless you’re offered some huge package I would look to resign. The teams better next year, three years and five years from now having him as opposed to some mid-20s pick and some other throw in. Flames fans have been idealizing the return we were going to get in the two trades before this and are likely doing the same now. If someone offers the equivalent of a few first rounds go for it, but I doubt anyone does. And at 26 I don’t think we have seen his best hockey yet.

What? He won resign… thats the whole point. Trade him.
