If you go back all the way to the French Connection in Buffalo, you will see the Sabres hand the Leafs a loss like this on a regular basis in Buffalo usually December or January almost every year.. It's nothing to worry about unless it leads to an exended losing streak.
Martin Jones is not an option and hasn't been good for any length of time since 2017/18 .You are kidding yourself if you think he's the solution. He was terrible last year. You have always needed another goalie since it turned out Matt Murray can't play any more.
I don't think your top defenceman can have no penalties. He has to be playing "soft" – not clearing the net or objecting to his teammates being manhandled. If the Leafs are looking to have "snot" you can't have your top dman with none.

The Leafs are doing as well as they have in previous years. Currently, they are in 2nd place in the Atlantic, (behind Boston). Their problem is the usual. They do not look like a playoff team. Their defense is spotty and they have goal tending issues. Same old, same old. A good team that is fun to watch. They need better goal tending and better defense.
Soon after Leafs got Samsonov he played against his former team the Capitals. Did poorly and noted it got to him mentally. This was the warning shot for me.
