As a Stars fan, my number one right now would be Miro Hieskanen, he is one of the best man in the league and the entire team plays to his style when he's on the ice, however he is, like Roope, very quiet. So if I had to pick one long term closer to the time Benn retires it would be Wyatt Johnston. Wyatt has very quickly become one of the best players on the team, his growth from rookie to sophomore year has been tremendous, and while being small he is very outspoken and brings a different level of energy to the team.
Robertson isn't a good choice I'm sorry.

I LOVE the Bryan Rust pick man. He is a very energetic and underrated player who has carried the team at times
Hertl deserved to be captain, Kutcherov over Hedman and Definitely Kempe over Byfield.
McAvoy is the right choice for Boston after Marchand is retired. He has that Patrice Bergeron/Zdeno Chara quiet confidence about him.
Man Hyman for the Oilers was a real hot take. Without a doubt I thought you’d go Nuge, but your arguments for Hyman were pretty valid, enough so that you may have convinced me lol
As a golden knights fan I’m kinda peeved you didn’t include William Karlson in the mix. He’s been very consistent and I think he’s 2nd in team for points behind eichel. I would def give it to karlson if marchessault left.

Byfield might be a good future choice for the kings but they also have Mikey Anderson as doughtys partner who shows great leadership

Tom Wilson for the caps for sure. I think he will end up being captain in the next few years when Ovi retires.
Had you asked me before the season started and it was looking like Backstrom was making his comeback I would’ve picked him, but obviously that can’t happen now with him kinda being retired.
But Bäckström was really respected on that team and around the league, so while it’s not as fiery of a pick as Wilson, it would’ve been solid imo.

For the wild man I would legit go Brock Faber
As a leaf fan who loves Tavares and Matthews, it just feels wrong that Morgan Reilly isn’t the captain. He’s the heart and soul of this team. He could’ve left after all the heartbreak yet doubled down and took a discount to stay. He deserves to be considered amongst the all time great leaf defencemen and hope he gets the C one day.

If for some reason Dallas yoinked the C from Benn RIGHT NOW I say put it on Pavelski. Everyone in the universe wants Joe Pavelski's name on the Stanley Cup and it would just hammer that point home.
If you're looking towards the under-30 crowd for a captain of the future my #1 choice would be Miro Heiskanen. He's been saddled with having to be 1.5 defenseman every shift since he's out there with gliding remnant of a bygone age Ryan Suter so his numbers have suffered a bit this year. Beyond that, the guy's clearly one of the top d-men in the league and someone that Dallas will absolutely be keeping around for as long as he's playing.
Robertson would be a good choice. Can't argue with it.
A sneaky possibility is Thomas Harley. The guy's 22 years old, in what's really his first full season, and already is out there doing some Darryl Sydor shit. He's the kind of guy you put the C on in hopes they live up to it.
The kings it will be doughty but after that Mikey Anderson has been a leader since he came into the league. He’s also super steady on the ice and a big glue guy in the room. QB will get a letter eventually but if Mikey is there it’ll be him
YEP Tuch would be great for the Sabres! He loves the team. It was the team he rooted for as a kid.
Cousins would be great because he has shown up to Rochester Americans games to root for them in the playoffs.

I paused at 8:29… Zach Hyman, as I watch Oilers game, he makes the most selfish plays trying to score for himself, which isn’t Captain Material at all.
It frustrates me seeing Hyman shoot when he has an open man to pass too with a wide open net, just trying to score on home ice is selfish in my opinion.
I couldn’t watch anymore after the Hyman pick, if you truly were an Edmonton fan, you’d hear the hymans broken jokes, now imagine that if he had the C, like no, just no.
What you say about that hit Andersson did on pasta I think the same about going McAvoy over pasta for captain that hit he did was so dirty and unnecessary as well so dubble standards?
As a Chicago fan I think that next year foligno will get the c and at the end of bedards elc they will give him the captaincy and they will ink him for a lot of money and a lot of years
Throwing my two cents into the ring that nobody asked for: Personally my next candidate for Coyotes captain is Lawson Crouse. He's a player who can do a little bit of just about everything, whether it be scoring, hitting, fighting, etc, and he brings so much energy to the team every night they play. He also just recently signed a 5 year extension, and he's said himself that he wants to br a Coyote for life. I think that's so important for a team as poorly perceived as the Coyotes are, and he clearly loves playint in the desert.
I know Keller is the obvious choice because he's the only name everyone knows and he's been there through it all, but I think Crouse's play style and energy just screams captain to me. I do hope they name one eventually, but I get why Tourigny sticks with the group leadership, it's definitely good to have that shared level.
Matthews should obviously be Leafs next captain.
