I would give Keefe another 10 games and if the ship isn't steadied then its time for him to go. I think the defense needs an upgrade, I don't know who you get rid of but you need some bigger, meaner, bodies out there to make players question if they want to go into the corners or not. Goalie situation sadly I think you have to weather the storm because if you're looking for a quick fix goalie that's a temp, there really isn't anyone out there worth the assets to trade for. I still believe Sammy can get it together because if not his career is toast.
bring the AHL team to Toronto and send the NHL team back to play for the AHL team in its place maybe they may play better 😉
How Sheldon is still the coach is a mystery.
Would recommend the same thing as at the end of the last season. Matthews or Nylander, pick one, trade the other. Tavares or Mariner, pick one, trade the other. Team is too top heavy.

A good thing about being a bruins fan is that sometimes they play bad, sometimes a player does something stupid and gets suspended or sometimes the players make mistakes and cost us goals and games, but never and I mean NEVER is effort a problem.

The Leafs looked good for a few minutes here and there. Then they discombobulated into the Toronto Maple Keystone Laughs. There was enough bad luck for the Leafs this game to complain about the Hockey Gods. But… then again maybe it's simply Harold having a little fun before the New Year?
The Leafs just refuse to be consistent. Leafs team defense this game was just… bad comedy. The top four… put in a half game effort. You pointed this out. This losing to bottom feeding teams is a habit now. Or is it an addiction? Or is it simply…. Leaf destiny?

Every team has poor efforts here or there. Good teams play down to bad teams a lot and wake up for the better teams. Teams that have less character and heart are going to do that more than others and watching this Leafs team as much as I do as a non fan it really strikes me how little heart they have when it matters. Maybe its just the other teams I watch really give it their all and tighten it up ineir own zone and come out in the third with fire but man the Leafs just dont. I dont think thats something that changes with coaching or anything that can be done in-season though. I sincerely doubt you could get a goalie better than Woll or good enough to take the reins without paying way too much for it. I think its Jones' net til Woll gets back and you sprinkle in some Samsonov and hope he gets his confidence back a bit. Ideally people play hard in front of the net and get in lanes and all but that isnt the MO of this team. Thatd be like asking the Oilers forwards and D core to take out secondary options on opposing rushes. Itd be nice but it isnt gonna happen.
With respect: ''The bar seems impossible'' the bar should be division titles plural with this group and they won the Canadian division and thats it. Complain all you will about the format but if you win your division you get an advantage for the first two rounds of the playoffs at least. Some years you are gonna be screwed and be in the same division as the Presidents trophy winner but 1 out of 8 should tell you your group aint it.

Nailed it with Keefe and co. It's complete mismanagement and dysfunction with him and it's not new. If I'm Treeliving I'm looking at this and losing my mind. The best part is behind the curtain we have players not budging at all on $ and yet only show up when they feel like it. It's not too early to panic and I don't care about the standings and streaks this team are what they are and it needs a drastic change. I know Christmas is over but my wishlist is a head coach with jam who won't let this BS continue and moving one of the golden boys on the core four to sure up our D
No man, it's simple. The Leafs players contract stipulates that when they play a bottom 5 team, or maybe bottom 10 team, they have to lose. Because heck, we're Canadians and we gotta be nice, so lets be nice to all the sucky teams and let them win a game!

I think the number 1 thing I’d try to change is their attitude. Banish the comfortable complacency. Bench players not cutting it. No matter who they are. Maybe set up a voluntary fine system, money going to the NHLPA fund EVERY TIME they sloppily cause a goal against. Scale it by salary.

Leafs are like my girlfriend… well, probably ex-girlfriend now. They can do well if they try, but they don't. They have commitment issues.
Wasn't there an LFR titled "sixty" where this was specifically the issue? That the Leafs can't go full 60 and often only go 40, and this time, just 20?
It's an ongoing issue, it's not a Christmas problem. They've done it before, they will do it again. Kinda reminds me of the Wings. They had this for the better part of the last decade. They cannot go the full distance, often collapse in the end (both the matches, and the season), and the only reason Leafs are doing better is high-end talent bailing them out.
They need to get rid of the coach. Not because he’s bad per se, but because they stopped listening to him so long ago it’s not even funny,. When he last year I believe it was, when he actually stepped back some comments calling them out and the next day pretty my apologies, they just laughed at him. Love Morgan five on five, but he is where powerplays go to die. They have a good powerplay despite him, not because of him.
The thing I see with the core is when one or two of them are flying, everyone else stands and watches. None of them seem to take the team with them. We have a guy or two looking good (Bert today) and none of them motivate the others to join them.
I think they need to trade Nylander and get some much-needed talent back on the blue line. But of course they won't trade him, and in fact, Nylander will get his 11 million dollar contract because I believe Shanahan/MLSE will ride out the short-term cap pain until Tavares contract is up. Then Tree will try to get Tavaras to sign a team-friendly contract. And let's not forget that Marner is next up after Willie. You can't win a cup with this core. I hate saying that, but it's true from everything I've seen so far.

I have just purchased 3 lower level tix to take in the leafs vs the Devils at the end of March whilst on vacation from Scotland 🏴🏴. Have I been duped by a team who just take the money or will it get sorted out by then ? I’ve been to a few leafs games over the years including a game 7 win against the sharks in the garden but I’m struggling to comprehend this core and hanger ons. I completely agree that you can't blame Jones for not stealing games as their starting goalie, when he shouldn't be a starting goalie on any NHL team. He's in his eleventh NHL season playing behind a not great defence. Unless you plug in someone like Demko who can stand on their heads, whoever plays behind this defence and lazy backchecking will also be thrown to the wolves on a regular basis. They need a defensive defenceman and an upgrade in goal, preferably both at the same time. If they don't shore up the defence and bring in another goalie they're probably just going to ruin another goalie.
